UF transfer 2018

Does anyone know the best way to get around campus? Shouid I bring my car?

It really depends on your situation. If you’re staying near campus, I would just leave your car parked at the place your staying and ride around on a bike. The other options would be to park at the garage, use the bus transportation, or simply walk. All in all, it depends on your specific situation.

@adamkennedyt I’m going to be living off-campus, but really only bringing my car so I can have some form of transportation outside of campus. I just plan to take the bus to campus and walk to my classes. In fact, a lot of my friends at UF recommend I don’t buy a parking pass since the parking is so limited. You could buy a bike or a scooter, but its mostly for convenience since you can estimate your walk time between classes anyway. Bike and scooter parking might be an issue too.

Hey guys, after almost three months, I was admitted to CLAS Microbiology with a 3.8 GPA and 60 credits. It took an exceptionally long time because I entered a four year university with 30+ credits. This means that I already qualified to transfer, but I hadn’t had enough time to take more than 1/3 of the requirements for my major. Luckily it all worked out in the end.

Hey, I applied for the Fall 2018 semester. I’m hoping I can remain competitive despite my lower GPA, luckily I actually have a bit of experience in a financial field and am currently a bookkeeper/accounting clerk for a Real Estate company here in Gainesville. I really don’t want to move to Tampa or Orlando to go to UCF or USF, despite already being accepted into both, especially since I already live in Gainesville.

GPA: 3.30
Transferring from: College of Central Florida
Major: BSBA - Finance
Status: Awaiting final decision from my college.
Extra-circulars: Four years of work experience with two years accounting experience as bookkeeper for a local real-estate office in Gainesville. And two years experience as a Communication’s Specialist and volunteer organizer for breast cancer 5k and activities director at 55 over community.

Is the CLAS Microbiology rolling admissions?

Hi there I also applied to transfer into Fall 2018 for Finance, Have you heard anything back yet? I was originally told i would have my decision 7 weeks after my application was referred to the School of Business, which was May 29th, but I was recently told decisions would be in by July 1st due to the rolling admission.

@rem1999 I’m in a similar situation, i’m a high school senior earning her AA degree and I was denied from uf. I accepted admission to fsu and in the fall I will be enrolled to take the pre-reqs for my major and just like you said, CLAS requires certain pre-reqs. My problem is that I can’t complete the second segment of Bio BSC2011 and it’s lab before the spring semester starts but i am able to comple the rest. I have a 3.95 GPA and I want to transfer spring 2019 into the Biology major. Did you get accepted without completing all the pre-reqs? and anyone here get accepted without all the pre-reqs or see any option for me here other than compelting the spring semester and transferring in the fall?

It’s been a while since I’ve visited this thread, but I was accepted within exactly 2 weeks of my application being referred to my college for a final decision!

@twaite1321 You need to have completed all the pre-reqs before you enroll in UF, so your best bet would be to take the course in the spring and transfer as early as the Summer A or C term. Your other option would be to take bio 1 (bsc2010) this summer B term at your local community college and then bio 2 (bsc 2011) in the fall term. Good luck!

@twaite1321, you’ll probably have to take BS2011 and its lab over the summer term.

I took CHM1045/L and MAC2311 in the fall semester, and I applied during the second semester while I was taking CHM1046/L and BSC2010/L. Because they didn’t have much to go on they waited until the end of the term to admit me.

I hadn’t completed BSC2011/L when I was admitted, and my admission is currently conditional on completing it with at least a B before the start of my admitted term (Fall 2018). I’m enrolled in it right now at my local community college back home as a summer transient student. Unfortunately CLAS is pretty strict about meeting major requirements for transfer enrollment.

If you plan on starting in the spring, like @stressed4lifee said, you’ll definitely want to try to get ahead on your track as soon as possible. You probably still have time to enroll in the second summer term, is that a possibility for you? You may even be able to get Bright Futures to cover it if you qualify.

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions about transitioning from FSU to UF. I check CC every once in a while and I’m happy to help. My advice is to make sure you still take advantage of your semester(s) at FSU before transferring. I’m really glad that I got involved during the time that I spent there despite knowing I was just going to leave after my first year.

Hello @rem1999,
I’m really stressed because I’m applying for Environmental Engineering as a transfer student and this summer I finish my prerequisites Calculus 3, Physics 2 & Differential Equations. The department they wanted my summer grades, however they’ll be receiving my transcripts one week before classes start, I asked them to consider me for conditional acceptance but they haven’t replied. How does it works? Did you received the acceptance in the portal? Were you allowed to register for classes ? Could you explain me how it works?

Hi @NobodyEveryone20
Sorry for the late reply. Which semester did you apply for? If it was fall 18, you may be in the same situation I was in.
Here’s how it worked for me:
I applied early in the spring term. I was supposed to get my acceptance in April, but the period where I expected to hear back passed with no response from UF. After a stressful three weeks of phone tag with CLAS (they were very hard to get ahold of) I was finally told that my major had decided to wait until they saw my spring semester grades before giving me an answer. As of that point they only had my fall grades (and my previous high school AP/dual enrollment credits), totaling to about 3/10(?) of the requirements for the major. They stressed to me that I would need to complete 10/10 before the fall.

After I submitted my spring grades, I waited a few weeks and still did not get a response. At this point, I called CLAS again and it turns out that my major did not know that my file had been updated. From this point CLAS informed my major that my new grades were in. They reviewed my grades, and now that they could see 9/10 requirements and had a better idea of my academic performance, they admitted me conditionally on the completion of my last prereq.

Part of what made this so stressful was that I had to call repeatedly to beg CLAS to tell me what they expected from me. I would recommend calling your college. Ask them to review your file and explain to you exactly what they want/expect from you, and ask if they can make an exception and admit you conditionally due to the urgency of completing orientation and registering for classes before the term starts. If they wait until your summer transcripts are in it might be too late. If you’re already done with summer classes from the first summer session, you have nothing to worry about.

When you do get admitted, you’ll be able to see your acceptance on the coalition log in page. From there, you’ll be prompted to create your UF email etc, allowing you to register for preview (orientation) where you register for classes.

Keep calling during the engineering college’s hours. If the main college can’t help you, get ahold of the environmental engineering advisor and see if they can tell you what’s going on.

Good luck!
