Hello. I am the mother of a current FSU student. Or family lives in Gainesville and my kid initially could not wait to get out of Gainesville when he graduated from high school. However, he’s now looking to move back home (his friends are here and FSU was never a good fit for him). He is in the process of submitting his application to UF as a transfer student for fall 2018. He’s applying to the College of agriculture and life sciences. He has all this prerequisites done except for STA 2023 which he will take during the summer. He has a pretty good GPA of around 3.6 -3.7. I two questions: what are his overall chances of being accepted into US as a transfer student? When does CALS typically make their acceptance decisions?
@Gator88NE - I see that you post a lot of helpful information on other thread. Do you have any data on the acceptance rate for transfers to UF College of Agriculture and Life Sciences?
@LakeAlto Take a look at the 2017 Annual Admissions Report. Page 17 and 18 have stats on transfer admissions.
http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/publications
From Summer B 2016 to Summer A 2017, CALS had 1,123 applications, 598 admits and enrolled 500 students. How competitive admissions could be, is based on your major within the college. However, with a 3.6+ GPA, I would think he’s going to be fine.
I’m assuming you’ve already seen this CALS transfer packet?

Good Luck!
@Gator88NE -yes, I have. But thank you for sending the link. If there are any other links that you think might be helpful, please send them!! He has submitted his application and now has to submit his transcripts from FSU and GHS. Not sure if his AICE Cambridge scores will be sent with his high school transcript or if he will have to request those separately from Cambridge… second question: Do you know how long it takes for CALS to get back with an applicant regarding acceptance or denial?
@LakeAlto If your son is getting his AA degree from FSU then his AICE scores do not need to be sent. If he is not earning an AA degree then yes, they need to be sent separately.
I don’t think he’s getting his AA degree. But I will remind my son to contact Cambridge to have his scores sent. Thank you so much for your advice!
Hi all. New question: UF has received all of my son’s transcripts by 02-13-18 (transcripts received, time accounted for, fee received, etc…). It’s now 2-26-18 in the application still says that they will refer it to the college for final decision. So the referral to CALS hasn’t happened yet. How long does it typically take for UF to send an application on it to the specific college?
@LakeAlto It should be soon. February it tough because the transfer AOs help with the freshman process and answering phones. Also there is suddenly 1000 new applications that were high school/AA students who were not admitted in the freshman process.
OK. Good to know.
Speaking with the secretary at my specific college (CLAS) and program (CS), she mentioned that a few things are slowing down the decision process. One of these is that they’ve (meaning the advisors) just been on spring break, the second is that they apparently switched to a new system that is somehow slowing things down. For CLAS at least, once a application is referred from the general college it takes 2-3 weeks for a decision. Mine was referred 2 weeks ago and it looks like it might push 4 weeks to get a decision.
