UF Transfer

Hello! I'm currently a student at a Florida community college. I guess I'll provide some background information before I get into my question/concern.

It took me a few semesters to figure out what I wanted to major in, and after trying a few different courses, I realized my love for science that I once had, and I now plan to become a doctor, thus majoring in biology. I have taken a majority of the general education courses needed for my AA, and currently have a 4.0 GPA with 33 credits completed.

I hope to attend UF in the summer/fall 2010, and I certainly plan on having my AA degree by then. I also plan on/will try my best with completing all of the required courses for my major by the time my junior year officially stars (Fall 2010).

I submitted my application to UF for the summer 2010 term, and they have requested my high school transcripts. While I graduated high school with a 3.9 weighted GPA, and did very well my freshman/sophomore/junior years in high school, I did very poorly my senior year due to some family/personal problems. Do you think UF will make an acceptance decision based on my high school transcripts? Furthermore, do you think with the above mentioned details that getting into UF will be a problem?

I appreciate anyone's time for reading this, and thank anyone for their feedback.

no, high school will only be referenced to for meeting the language requirement (maybe something else as well, but no decision based on this).

I think you have a great shot (depending on what major). You have a way higher GPA then I do, want to trade? :stuck_out_tongue: But yeah, I think you are in great position. Just make sure that you get all the pre-reqs done. Because of the budget cuts, if you don’t have all the pre-reqs done, you are denied (from what I was told and it happened to me for Summer, which is why I waited and am applying for Spring). Good luck! Hopefully I get in and see you there!

thanks for the feedback and support! Good to know that they only use the HS transcripts for the foreign language requirement. I’m contacting the specific school now to find out what courses I will need completed for sure.

Thanks again, hope to see you next year as well!

And another question: does anyone know if they will wait to make an admission decision until I have completed my AA/finished my pre-reqs? Or will they offer me conditional admission on the count that I finish all my pre-reqs?

UF doesn’t consider senior grades until admission, so I don’t know why that was a problem.

I didn’t apply to UF when I was in high school. I’m applying now as a transfer student. I was just curious if they would use my high school transcripts from 2 years ago to make an admission decision now when I have a 4.0 in college.

Thanks! Does anyone know the answer to my previous question?

I appreciate everyone’s time.

They will look at your college transcript to make the admissions decision. Your high school transcript is used to make sure you have completed the foreign language requirement if you did not take a foreign language in college.

When I applied for Summer of 09, my letter said recommend reapply for Spring when more than half of prereqs are completed. This was for Political Science, so you might want to check with your school. But I know personally, you have to have at least half of the prereqs done. I was taking all 4 and was denied, then told to reapply. Because of the budget cuts, a lot of things have changed. I am hoping that is the only reason I was denied and not because of my overall GPA of 3.64. If so, then I should get in (which is what I am hoping). Just call the specific school you’re applying for and ask an advisor, that would be the best thing. Every college is different and I can only talk from my experience.

Thanks! I called the specific college and they told me exactly what I need to have done. I heard though that if you don’t have EVERY pre-req then they won’t accept you as a transfer/

you heard correct dannibal. EVERY pre req for your major must be completed to be considered for said major.
