Hey Everyone, I know that the deadline for UGA EA was last week and I wanted to created a discussion form for those who applied EA. We can honestly talk about anything. But my first question: When will they release decisions for EA?
Hi there. I went on their blog a couple of weeks ago and David Graves said it would be late November (they haven’t chosen exact date yet). Always on a Friday in the late afternoon.
I’m not sure if that is how it usually is, but that is what he said on the blog.
It will be interesting to see if the number of applications push the notifications out. Dr. Graves tweeted that EA apps are up 25% this year and that about 50% of people applied with ACT/SAT scores.
You never know, of course, and just like you said, who knows how the increase in apps will affect the timing, but UGA typically tries to release their decisions the Friday before Thanksgiving. It was like that at least the year before my older son was accepted, it was like that the year he was accepted (Friday, 11/18/16, in the late afternoon…it was a very nice holiday surprise!!!), & it was the same in 2017, 2018 & 2019. So, we’re hoping it will be the same for our younger son this year.??
Hi, my friend applied through Common App for UGA Terry which she regrets. Is this school hard to get in? Also her SAT super score is 1440.
She was told she should apply UGA Franklin Arts & Science.
@klowie Thanks. I’m OOS and I didn’t really see anybody commit to UGA until the spring so I wasn’t sure when they announced it. It seems that day should be 20th, which is actually a pretty short turnaround.
I’m OOS and UGA is one of the top 3-4 schools I’m considering. Do you think that the increase in apps will make it a lower acceptance rate for OOS or just overall?
@dancer7381 Yeah, I’m in the same boat but I don’t think the increase will hurt OOS acceptance rate will be hurt more than the in-state acceptance rate. From what I’ve heard, both are roughly the same.
My daughter is OOS as well. Does anyone know how many OOS applications UGA usually gets and what the OOS acceptance rate is?
Thank you!
UGA does not consider state of residency when looking at applications so there is no difference in in state or out of state residency. The acceptance rate is in the high 40s but this may change since EA applications are up almost 30 percent. It may be that it is just people who were going to apply RD and now that they are on the Common App it was easier to apply early. Who knows?
Also, the Common App may drastically lower the acceptance rate at UGA in the next few years, if Georgia Tech is any indication. UGA has many more in state students than Georgia Tech though - not sure if that is by design or because it just works out that way.
UGA just tweeted that EA decisions are coming out 11/20.
Thanks! @nanosec I also read on their blog post that the honors and scholarship decisions will be separate and released in Dec due to the increase in apps. I’m excited either way!
Wow, 28% increase in apps over last year EA and 80% of apps are Common app. Looks like a good decision on their part to start accepting it.

Dr Graves just posted the EA data on the applicant pool - the admitted #s will obviously be higher.
Total Overall Early Action Applicant Data
EA Applications – 20,900 – This is a 27% increase over last year.
UGA GPA Average – 3.91 – This is calculated by UGA using only core classes, and not the GPA seen on the HS transcript.
ACT Average – 32 – This is based on the students who submitted ACT scores as a part of their file.
SAT Average – 1404 -This is based on the students who submitted SAT scores as a part of their file.
AP/IB/DE Courses – 8 – We determine academic rigor by reviewing the overall course selection in all core classes over 4 years, but this data helps with understanding the competitiveness. This is the total number of AP/IB/DE courses taken by our applicants over their 4 years in HS (so through senior year).
It says they really haven’t had time with all the EA applicants to read the essays or recommendations, and so I am wondering if the EA acceptances will be limited to people who submitted high test scores, and not test-optional applicants. The latter seem likely to be deferred if they are just making decisions on numbers at this point.

@UTSquared UGA generally does not read all the EA files at this point. Several years ago EA admits were based on scores and grades essentially. Within the last 5 years, they have started to read more holistically according to the blog. There is a subset that I understand is still admitted on grades/scores but last year they said they were reading a larger number of borderline students (i.e., borderline deny or borderline accept). My guess is you will need to be quite a bit above the averages listed above to not be deferred given the number of applicants. . . An outstanding GPA and rigor might well trigger a holistic review even absent test scores. Crossing our fingers over here!
