Does anybody have any idea roughly what the stats are in the top 2%? Also, does anybody know if GPA or SAT/ACT is looked at more heavily in consideration for the definition of the top 2? Thanks in advance.

If you go to the UGA admissions blog and look at the postings for December 2009, specifically Friday, December 11, there is a link to a press release regarding early admissions. The Honors Program auto-admits the top 2% of EA. I have pasted the portion that related to gpa and test scores.

Hard to say what the top 2% was for the 2010 applicants, but it was pretty high. As I posted earlier, if you don’t make the cut for auto-admit fill out the application that is due in February. That application highlights your whole person, not just your test scores, and requires an essay.

Good luck to you.

"The students who applied early this year are academically quite strong, McDuff said. Those offered admission at this point have an average academic GPA mid-range of 3.84-4.08, an SAT mid-range of 1240-1390 (with a mean SAT writing score of 654) or a mean ACT range of 28-32. UGA requires students to submit writing scores for their ACT and SAT tests and those scores are an integral part of the selection process, McDuff said.

Those students admitted through early action also took an average of six Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes."

I’m thinking that auto admits generally went to those who scored at least 1430(ish) or 32(ish). No idea about what the average GPA is.

Disclaimer: UGA hasn’t stated that anywhere - just the impression I’ve gotten in speaking to Honors students.

Okay, thanks for all the help. Good luck to everybody.

I got in Honors in the top 2% round this year (for fall 2011 admission). They base that top 2% off of pretty much just raw data for the most part. To give you a statistical idea of me as an applicant as a reference for top 2%: 4.0u/w (highest HS goes), one of top 2 students in class, 34 act, 2220 sat (1450), NHS, honor roll, an array of activities, service, leadership, and awards.

@ zhonginator and trjohnson1- CONGRATS! Now, just curious as i am one still anxiously waiting and now have a 2 day holiday with no mail-- do you have weight added by uga for your gpa or not. IN other words did your scchool add points for AP classes. I am worried this will hurt my S because he stops at a 4.o for uga with no extra points because his school adds points, even though he did not need them. Just curious if anyone got honors letter who had UGA calculated gpa of 4.o or less. Thanks.

I just got my letter of acceptance into UGA Honors
SAT: 1440/2180. >4.0 GPA & a few extracurriculars. a bunch of AP classes. a few merit awards. I’m in the top 5% of my class. Hope this helps. I’m super happy, wasn’t planning on going to UGA if I didn’t get into the honors program. But, it’s definitely an option now!

S got charter scholarship but no letter from honors today. Anyone else with charter & no honors letter?

No. S got honors letter today but no charter. Really happy though- he really was only considering GA if he got into honors. I bet if your S got a charter then he will get honors and his letter is just late. Good luck and let us know!

@socialdramamama. D got charter and we haven’t gotten honors letter yet. ACT is below 32 so I am not expecting honors.

My S got charter but no honor auto-admit. Still I was very happy because we were not expecting anything other than Hope. His GPA is 3.9 weighted, SAT 1440/2110. Rank top 20% in a very comptative HS. This should give those with similar stat some hope.

However, he participated in few mission trips, one out of the country, played several instruments for worship team in church, won 1st place for performance category in 2010 GA beta convention, participated in many school and local festival events for dance and music performances.

Since he got charter, I was hoping he receive honor invitation but so far nothing in mail

S has identical stats to last post but 4.0. Charter but no honors so far. We are about 1 1/2 hours away from Athens. Happy about Charter…

AYE. I got into honors!

Charter but no auto-Honors. Will apply this month, hopefully I’m a competitive candidate.

3.8
31 ACT

Still waiting on ED2 to W&L but UGA is my #2.

This is kinda late, but I thought this was worth sharing. I was auto-admitted to the UGA Honors Program for fall 2011, when I will start as a freshman, and I wasn’t expecting it. Honestly, I didn’t think I would get into Honors at all because of my GPA. It’s approximately a 3.9, well below the average for Honors, but other things made up for that. My SAT was 1390/2120, not quite high enough, but my ACT score (32 composite, 34 reading, 33 math, 33 reading, 29 science, and 31 combined reading/writing) was equivalent to a 1540/2270 on the SAT scale. I’ve taken 2 AP’s, and this year I’m dual enrolled at a community college and will have 14 credit hours under my belt (English 101 and 102, Calculus 1, and Intro to Sociology) when I start at UGA in the fall. I’ve been involved in several extracurriculars, led at church and over an art club for middle schoolers, volunteered a lot (2 summers of hospital volunteering and more), and my HS counselor really likes me. I’ve also been talking numerous gifted classes all through high school. I was surprised (but so happy!!!) when I got my letter, but know that more than just that top 2% or so (just a rumor) eventually get in. And even if you don’t, you can always apply after your first semester at UGA, or transfer in from another school. Hope this helps, and maybe I’ll see some of you in Myers :)

BTW, I haven’t gotten any scholarship offers yet. I didn’t apply for Foundation Fellows or Ramsey, but I’ve got my fingers crossed that I’ll get the charter.

Same man^^ I haven’t gotten anything for charter but I DID get auto admit. I will see YOU at myers too :P

What do you all know about life in Myers? Are most of the Honors students there freshmen or do they tend to stay in Myers as upperclassmen?

@mgm2015: That is an unusual but inspirational story. Your stats aren’t that low at all; just a little below the Honors average, sp its not very surprising that you got in. And as far as i know, your ECs wouldn’t count towards your admissions decisions if you got AUTO-admitted. Only your “stats” like your GPA, SAT and ACT count towards auto-admissions.

Since you said that “more than the top 2% EVENTUALLY get in”… When did you get your auto-admittance letter?

Myers is mostly freshman, some sophomores, and a small number of upperclassmen. It’s a pretty good mix of people, making it easier to find your ‘tribe’. I know a good number of Honors kids who are currently in Russell, Creswell, or Brumby and regret their dorm choice because of the different environment. Myers is definitely a quieter, more scholarly atmosphere (at times) than other freshman dorms but there’s still plenty going on. Plenty of people in Myers also go Greek so if you (or your S/D) are interested in that scene, you can find plenty of friends that way.

P.S. Congrats. to those who were recently admitted to Honors!
