Assuming that I am accepted into UGA Early Action in a few days, I would like to go ahead and apply for housing because I am under the impression that it is competitive. What are some of the best houses for Freshman to live in?
Thank you!!!

Definitely the suites
Depends on your definition of “best”. What are you looking for? Social? Parties often? Or do you prefer a quieter environment?
Depending on your preferences, it’s hard to recommend a certain dorm. However, in terms of the quality of the dorms themselves (i.e. size, comfort, cleanliness, etc.), you’d be best off avoiding the high rises (Creswell, Russell, Brumby).
They’re social, and tend to have more parties than do other dorms, especially since it has a high population of people in fraternities/sororities. But the rooms within those high rises are just… abysmal.
You’ll see come orientation day during the summer.
Do note that not all dorms are alike. They vary in pricing, and the included amenities will differ. For example, certain dorms such as Boggs Hall have in-room sinks. They also have tile floors, instead of carpet. Other dorms have have numerous differing suites, such as Building 1516; some of those suites include full in-room bathrooms (though, obviously, cost more).
@Interdimension I am not very interested in parties, so this information regarding the high rises was very helpful. Thank you!
Do you know much about the dorms in the East Campus Village; Busbee, McWhorter, Rooker, and Vandiver? From the pictures I have seen on UGA’s website, I like them. Are they in a central location on campus or are they located far from things such as academic halls, dining halls, etc.?
East Campus Village (or ECV, for short) dorms are apartment style and typically for upperclassmen. Comfortable? Yes. But also pricier than other dorms, since they’re not really “dorms”. (see: https://housing.uga.edu/residence/tour/ecv)
I wouldn’t recommend living there as a freshman. Making friends and socializing is a part of the experience. And though you don’t have to live in the highrises for that, ECV isn’t an optimal choice.
You can, however, choose to live in Building 1516, which is for all intents and purposes part of ECV (but technically part of Reed Community). I heard it’s not too social, and it’s mostly upperclassmen with a few underclassmen scattered about. Nice dorms, but also pricier than the other freshmen dorms (i.e. Hill Community).
ECV and Building 1516 are located near the gym, East Village Dining Commons, and the Health Center. They’re not located near classes, and you WILL need to ride the buses daily (or your own car) to classes. They’re located over a mile away from the central campus area (the Miller Learning Center), which is where most classes are located. You’re getting comfort in your dorm in exchange for proximity to your classes.
