well yes, I have to agree with you - money IS the only thing holding me back from Emory. I posted this because I wanted to see what you guys thought about the entire situation. First off, both schools have a decent pre-med program (although I believe that Emory's is more well known). We got that point.

Second of all, I think that there is way too much distraction at UGA, and that a lot of students there don't take their "studies" seriously. Like it seems to me a lot of people are there just to party, which annoys me. Don't get me wrong, I love a good party, but when the campus is strewn with beer bottles that says something.

Third, nothing is guarantee. What if I don't get into med school with either school? Then I will be stuck with just an undergraduate degree. An undergraduate degree from Emory looks better than an undergraduate degree from UGA.

Fourth, I like Emory's campus! It's beautiful! (and yes, I have been to both campuses). I like Atlanta over Athens because there are more opportunities. CDC is right next to Emory, and so is the hospital. There are a lot of intern opportunities, not to mention there is more to do in Atlanta.

That's about all I can think about for now..feel free to disagree or offer any other opinions. Thank you for your feedback, I really do appreciate it.

oh, and another VERY important factor that i am looking for is small class sizes..I am the type of person who cannot learn in a lecture hall with 200-300 other students..that is just way too much for me

then to me, it tips the scales in favor of Emory. Honors is a great program, I don't know about the rest of UGA. The only reason I picked UGA over NYU was because I was invited to Honors

Don't even consider that your friends are going off to "big name" schools. Do everything you can to forget about how your choice looks to the people you are with now and everything you can about how the choice will look ten years from now and 20 years from now.

There are many to whom the dollars don't make a big difference - tuition from trust fund or really rich parents (not those in the $200-$250K range that Dems define as rich). If you will have to borrow to attend Emory, then I say Georgia and, if you were admitted to Emory, then you just might be successful in getting to Georgia Honors after you arrive.

Excuse me Granny but keep the topic to exclusively what Bubbly is asking without mixing politics into it, please.
Bubly: you really belong at Emory based on your level of happiness.
good luck

I've always questioned this mentality. If you're still in high school- have you done it?

It's really not that hard. Professors don't just ramble like you hear about, most try to reach out to the class and do in fact answer questions for the people actually listening. They aren't up there just to talk.

I'm not going to weigh in on the discussion however. I'm very surprised though at people that are discounting the non-honors UGA curriculum. Honors students don't take that many honors classes...

uga does not have a strong science department. i had the same choice, between emory and uga honors, and i ultimately went with emory because i want to be a chem major. plus you seem pretty set on going to emory over uga (which i completely understand). emory is my dream school and uga just isnt for me. if your parents can somewhat afford it and u come out with reasonable debt, id say go for it

Although it was a tough choice, my parents just aren't down with paying that much for Emory, especially since I have med school costs to consider. As of right now, I am committed to ga tech...although I got into NYU a few days ago!! we'll see how the fin aid turns out for that..
