Hey! Im thinking about applying to UGA in the fall, but apprehensive on my chances of admission because I live in the Atlanta City district and I know its more competitive because I’ve heard that they look at zip codes, but I have a 700 for CR, 610 for math (took the sat in june and one of my math scores where canceled, I know, annoying) and 630 for writing. I will graduate with 8 AP’s, weighted average of 98, pretty good extra circulars and leadership positions, played a variety sport and over 100 hours of community service this summer alone. Wondering if I should take the SAT again in the fall to raise my math score or if you guys think what I have is enough, or if I should take subject tests instead. I want to do ED but its much more competitive but I just would love some advise from someone who has applied to UGA recently. Thanks!
What? ED is usually less competitive than RD (ED is for if UGA is first choice. RD, like everywhere else is usually when you cannot risk ED b/c finances or you want a chance at having options, including some reach schools). Also, your score is very solid. it is at the median score (1930) and your GPA is close to perfect. You would be solid for ED rounds because likely not as many people with your scores are applying that round (many people in the 1300s M/V would at least try for some reach schools). I feel like you should not really bother raising your score unless you think it will go near the top quartile. As for the zipcode, they may be looking for balancing zipcodes or they may just look at what types of scores they tend to “yield” from your zip code and I am willing to be that it isn’t much higher than your score because higher scoring people will be from other counties or places like N. Fulton, various charter and private schools that are not in the city. Also, are you talking about ED or early action?
