Okay, so I don't about everyone else but in my school system the order of math classes goes like this:
Algebra 1
Geometry
Algebra 2
** Advanced Math IV **
Precalc
Calculus

Does anyone else have Advanced Math IV or an equivalent to it? What is it anyway?

In my school, the smarter kids do: Alg 1, Geo, Alg 2, Trig/Analyt Geo, and then Calc (honors; no AP). The average kids do: Alg, geo, remedial college prep math for 2 years. The the below average kids barely make it past informal geo

At my school it goes:
Algebra 1 (the more “advanced” kids take it in 8th grade)
Geometry
Math Models (only for people who struggle with math)
Algebra 2
PreCalculus, Algebra 3 or Statistics
Calculus or College Algebra for dual credit

You only need up through Algebra 2 to graduate, so after that people take whatever they want. In general the smarter kids take Pre-Calculus as juniors and then AP Calculus, and everyone else takes Algebra 3 or Statistics

Yeah… never heard of a class called Advanced Math IV.

I can’t possibly imagine what it would teach. I imagine it’s not required? Maybe it’s a more advanced version of Algebra 2 involving Trigonometry?

Never heard of that course. At my school we take Algebra 1(fresh), Algebra 2 and Geometry(soph), trig and college algebra (jr) , and calculus(senior).

Essentials Math
Algebra 1
Geometry
Algebra 2
Math Analysis (trig 1st semester/pre-calc 2nd semester)
Calculus (reg/AP AB/AP BC)
AP Stats (but you can take this anytime after Algebra 2)

I’ve never heard of anything like that, we have:

Algebra I (can be done in middle school)
Geometry (can be done in middle school too)
Algebra II/Trig
Pre-Calc
Calc I

All of those also have honors classes, and Calc has AP too.

And then we also have AP Stats and those “other” math classes kids take to fulfill the math requirements without doing too much work like math analysis, numbers something or other (can’t remember the name) and that type of thing. These all can be taken after Algebra II

and after those classes you can choose what you want. For example the kids in honors who took algebra in 8th grade are usually at calc by the time they get to senior year, others in Pre-Cal. I personally am in Prob & Stat

Our classes are like:
Algebra 1 (7th, 8th, or 9th)
Geometry (8th, 9th, or 10th)
Algebra 2 (9th, 10th, or 11th)
Trig/Precalc (10th, 10th and 11th, 11th and 12th, or 12th (just trig))
AP Calc AB (11th or 12th)
AP Calc BC (12th)

@OP We have something like that, but our school has added another math class to our math track.

These are the math classes at my school:

Algebra I
*Common Core Algebra I (Includes Algebra II and Stats material)
Geometry
Algebra II
Algebra III (also called Advanced Algebra, optional) or Statistics & Probability
Pre-Calculus or AP Statistics & Probability
AP Calculus AB yearlong
AP Calculus AB/BC
Calculus III

*The new course is Common Core Algebra I it’s suppose to get students prepared for Algebra II and Statistics. It’s not like Algebra I at all, it just shares the same name.

Advanced Math IV in your school is kind of like Algebra III in my school. Algebra III is for students who are not ready to move on to Pre-Calculus. This class is completely optional, just strongly recommended if you didn’t do so well in Algebra II.
