Because everyone has different tastes in music…

And not all heavy metal is screaming anyway. Just look at Metallica. While I like metal of all kinds, I prefer the non-screaming variety. My favorite band, Dream Theater, is Progressive metal (combo of progressive rock and metal), and they never scream at all. Their music is just very complex and very well written, and their guitarist and drummer are world renowned and among the best in the world.

And just so you know, I can’t understand what anyone sees in rap music, but hey, whatever floats your boat. (Now dubstep I actually kinda like, but it’s not my favorite)

My boyfriend listens to a lot of heavy metal. Generally, I’m not a fan, but I found a really good way to compromise–suggest some lighter music to him that still fits in the genre, like progressive metal. Bands like Protest the Hero (prog. metal) have very little screaming.

Just try to find something that you can both enjoy. Don’t force yourself to listen to something, and don’t make him stop listening to his music.

Heavy metal is amazing, and so is Bon Iver. Bon Iver is like words and sounds just saturated with emotion. Amazing. Calgary and Skinny Love are both on my list of favorite songs ever<3 Anyway… To me, all rock music is amazing. Some other stuff is alright too though. (:

Can’t tell if this is a ■■■■■ thread, most likely. If not, anyway, trance and dubstep are pretty worthless genres. Metal, well at least progressive metal, is an excellent genre.

I hate rock. I used to like Paramore and Breaking Ben and Kings of Leon and Coldplay, but now i think its all dumb. I want to like it, but i just dont. I dont know why. Maybe its because i’m turning to the wrong kinds of artists? Could someone recommend some really really good rock music? (I listened to bon iver and boards of canada on youtube, and i realized that indie folk/electro isn’t really my thing.)

I’m always annoyed with people who don’t know anything about genres. Heavy metal is Van Halen and Metallica. I’m guessing you’re all thinking of Bring me the horizon and asking alexandria as “Heavy Metal”. NO! That is metalcore, that’s very different. You disagree? Well, think of it this way. What if I call Flo Rida “Dubstep”. That isn’t correct, Flo Rida is Hip Hop.

P.S. I listen to metalcore and a bit of dubstep. I can easily say that as much as I like both, neither one is very musical.

several episodes feature an adult asking Phineas if he is too young to be performing some complex activity, to which he responds “Yes, yes I am.”

Heavy Metal would be bands like Iron Maiden/MotorHead which are considered New Wave of British Heavy Metal and then there are bands like Black Sabbath who are considered Early Heavy Metal, bands like ,Van Halen will (usually) be labeled simply as Heavy Metal.Like nicetomettyou said bands like asking alexandria ARE NOT HEAVY METAL.They are Metalcore/Hardcore.Metallica by the way was first labeled as Thrash Metal they’re actually one of the big four of Thrash Metal the other three are Megadeth,Slayer, and Anthrax.Though Metallica doesn’t really have the signature thrash sound they used to.

Metalcore is not Heavy Metal.Metalcore is more of a fusion of Punk with Thrash Metal. Its like saying Nu-Metal is a subgenre Hip Hop sure they have common elements but they’re very different.

FunkyRadium and I seem to share the same point. We could care less if you hate music with screams/growls but at least know which genre you’re criticizing.

If you look at the dubstep page, you’ll see it’s a subgenre of dance music. Yet most people I know will say “■■■■ U CANT DANCE 2 SKRILLEX” (forgive my sarcasm).

Similarly, Metalcore branches out from the roots of heavy metal but it’s a very different genre. And that applies to Death metal, thrash metal, and prog metal.

Nicetomeetyou: If you’d actually read all my posts in this thread, you’d see that I said I like heavy metal, INCLUDING metalcore (perhaps not those exact words, but still). That is all.
