Ugh... Standardized Testing

So I am currently a Junior in High School. I have taken the SAT 3 times and have gotten the following scores. I was wondering if it was worth retaking the Old SAT, trying the New SAT, or taking the ACT. However, I really don’t want to put in more time studying for these tests and actually taking them on Saturday at 8am, but it may be necessary. Also, taking it 4 times might look bad, especially because Stanford want my entire testing history. The only thing I am worried about is my Reading score being too low. I saw Stanford’s interquartile for Reading and I’m at the 25th percentile.

End of freshman year 620 R 800 M 660 W 2080
November sophomore 650 R 750 M 740 W 2140
January Sophomore 690 R 800 M 700 W 2190
Super Score 690 R 800 M 740 W 2230

You’ve already taken it too many times, so no matter what you do, you’re going to look overly obsessed with test taking. Your last two composite scores are very similar; unless you can do something between now and your next proposed test date to significantly increase these scores, you might as well stop now. If, on the other hand, you can get tutoring, take real practice tests (actual old SATs), and start reliably scoring much higher, it might be worth taking the test one more time. Three or four makes no difference—they’re both overkill.

You don’t seem to have taken the ACT yet, so a better idea than persevering with the SAT might be to take some real practice ACT tests (again, actual old tests, not ones made up by test prep companies) and see how you do. If you do well (aim for 35 or 36 composite), take the ACT once or twice—no more. Taking either the ACT or the SAT more than twice reflects negatively on you (as does taking any SAT subject test more than once).

I highly suggest you stop taking tests as your scores are good enough already. Also you already took it enough times, taking it anymore will significantly hurt you now.

Not relevant to your question, but it’s nice to see a fellow chessplayer:) I wrote my CommonApp essay about my chess career and my tournaments
