UIC-GPPA.

There are only a handful of merit scholarships per year.

sweet.

i submitted my intent to enroll and all that jazz and im off to GPPA Med next year!

i hope to see some of you there next year :)

congrats to everyone!

GoBroncos, just curious. What scholarship did you apply for, and where was the application? Was it online? I kind of missed the whole scholarship thing. Ah well!

jarnizzl:
i didn't apply for nething, it just came in the envelope with my financial aid stuff, its called the kerr scholarship

what are the types of gppa programs and which one is the hardest to get into?

theres GPPA everything but medicine is the most competitive by far as it receives the most applicants

Congrats to all who got in!!
May you be great professionals (I suppose that's the term) in the future!

If you guys wouldn't mind, would you post up ACT, GPA, and experience you had??

Thanks!

ACT: 34
GPA: 4.25

Experience: Mini Med School at Midwestern University and Emory University School of Medicine Summer Science Academy

UIC's med school isn't that great, at least from what IMSA kids say.
Something like 28 IMSA guys got into gppa med but only FOUR of them decided to go last year. Many IMSA kids get in every year, but they're not a feeder school because very few choose to go.
I think gppa should just be a safety. If you're in this program, try and apply out to other medical schools.

i dont agree at all. i dont know how in high school your opinion of a medical school can have any merit considering how little true experience we've had in the field . . . and med school is med school. everyone that graduates is a dr.

r we confusing UIC's med school with their undergrad?

UIC med is decent--not tier1, but it is a research oriented school, meaning you'll have the opportunities to build a CV that can get you into competitive residencies such as derm, ENT, and opthamology. their recent match lists are excellent.

i think its hilarious when IMSA students base their judgements off of US News rankings; remember its a business that survives off of people just like IMSA students who are numerically orientated. then again, when ur debating between an ivy or UIC...i dont think theres any debate, which prolly explains the 4/28 matriculation rate

UIC undergrad is by consensus awful in many ways--the honors college makes it a bit better in terms of student quality--gppa med and financial constraints are the only reasons to consider going there

I completely agree that UIC's medical school is decent. But, those of us that are capable enough to gain admission to programs like this should be able to gain acceptance to better medical schools.

The consensus about UIC undergrad is that fairly good. UIC is an above average school. It is good, not great. The average UIC undergraduate student was in the top quarter of his/her high school class and had an ACT about 24. UIC academics are fairly strong. Students tend to complain about the culture. UIC has a notorious reputation of being a tough grading school, as you will soon find out. UIC undergrad has had no grade inflation since it opened in the 1960s.

and also how could 28 be accepted from one school when the total acceptances are usually around 45 ish (give or take a few)?

Because IMSA is IMSA, lol.

so you're saying that only 15 people from other HS was accepted?

28/45, that's a ton from imsa....i guess that could be possible

28 does seem a little high. I have met some IMSA GPPA students, and it didn't seem they made up half of the GPPA population.

i agree. 28 is way too high of a number.

hi im from imsa, so ull hear things straight from the horse's mouth

this year i think 8 ppl were accepted, about 21 applied (from imsa).

last year, only ONE matriculated into GPPA from imsa. not sure how many applied/were accepted, but the stats were similar to this year's.
