UIUC is a top-notch public university. It would be as selective as UCLA if it were as big.

Are decisions released via email?

@boramk, admissions are posted via the website of UIUC, but we accept our offers, housing, etc. via email. And yes, UIUC is quite selective. It’s a top-rated school. It’s name and prestige may not be known to an lay man as much as say Harvard’s or MIT’s would be, but people in the industry well know that it’s a top-notch school. It blows the pants of many of the ivys in its rankings of certain schools. For instance, it’s way better than Cornell and UPenn in engineering. It’s top-notch!

Can you post a link for me to log in and check? I have no acces to a computer ATM using my phone

@boramk, sure. I’m assuming you’re a freshman. So here’s the link for checking Freshman decision.

Best of luck! =D

Decision says admit am I in?

Yes. How can they make it clearer :D

■■■■ !!! Thank u

@boramk, yes, you’ve been accepted to your first choice major! Congratulations! =D Post your stats, if it isn’t too personal! =D

Once I have a computer I will… Wow no sleep for me :)

By the way, I have a question. If you were to pick between these two schools for engineering [electrical, to be more specific], but later you may want to pursue an MBA and eventually move in management, finance, banking, etc., [like after attaining a bachelors in engineering] which one would you choose?

UC Berkeley Vs. UIUC

^ I think there has been a thread on this forum (or the engineering forum) regarding UIUC vs UCB EE. Check there, I maybe wrong.

I would choose Berkeley but the price tag is also important.

Regardless of price tags, housing, location, etc. I’m talking about what effect it would have on you in the practical world and stuff.

@compscifan, yea, I checked. That thread was for UIUC Vs. Cornell. IMO UIUC>Cornell, but I’m not so sure about that with respect to someone pursuing the plan as outlined above^

It’s not particularly HARD to get in, either. If you’re aiming for MIT or the Ivies, UIUC is considered a safety school; if you were planning on going to a state school, UIUC might be the most challenging of all your options. The CC crowd tends to be more focused on getting better grades and trying for more selective schools, so one would expect most of the posts here to be about getting accepted.

Of course, it is much more challenging to gain international admission than to gain domestic admission.

@LoremIpsum, but I got international admission with **** stats. =P

And, yes, not particularly very HARD to get in, but considering you’re applying for engineering, UIUC is from nowhere a safety.

If you’ve got the stats for a realistic shot at HYPSM (in my son’s case, a perfect 36.0 ACT and a #1 in 400 class rank), then UIUC is a safety, even in engineering. Getting merit scholarships, on the other hand, is much more challenging.

True, but nevertheless, UIUC is quite highly ranked in engineering, so although it might be a safety, it’s a school worth attending over Harvard with respect to engineering ranking, though you would be groomed much more at Harvard or the similar. I’m sure you agree.
