UIUC class 2020 thread

@priya4599 thanks! fingers crossed :slight_smile:

@Joobycooby congrats! You have an awesome ACT btw!

@TheDarkJedi Thank you!

@segatron Was MechE your first choice or second choice major?

@Adwaya No problem. 760CR 690M 660W, 3.4UW, 4.2W, admitted to the college of engineering from Maryland.

@Northeastlax: Hmmm…Nice CR score… :slight_smile:

How hard is it to change major? or double major at UIUC?

2 boys accepted at UIUC, both LAS. OOS. Son #1 for physics (32 ACT, 3.966 u/w, ECs, Nat’l Merit Commended, rank 8/121). Son #2 for CS + x (31 ACT, 3.867 u/w, ECs, rank 16/121). Both will graduate HS and earn Associates degree simultaneously. Both awarded University Achievement Scholarship of $12K/yr, both offered LAS James Scholars honors program. They will accept admission at UIUC but Son #2 is also appealing denial at another school. They will go to school together.

@IAMomofTwins congratulations on both of your sons’ acceptance! May I know how can they graduate HS while earning associates degree simultaneously? Thank you!

@Truepassion They earned their AA degree by taking dual credit classes thru local community college throughout HS. They will actually receive their AA degree from comm college 6 days prior to HS graduation.

As transfer students how did this affect their FA?

I have a small question. I have been rejected for my first choice major: Mechanical Engineering, but I have been accepted into my second choice: Undeclared (DGS). Can I transfer into Mechanical Engineering from DGS in my sophmore or junior year?

Appreciate any feedback!

@Salutation from what I understand it is pretty hard to do so. Please make sure you talk to an adviser in the school of engineering before you commit to Illinois. If you know you want mech E, I’d probably be very reluctant to accept the offer.

OOS Daughter was accepted to Civil Engineering.

In for MSE, first major, EME 2nd choice. No scholarship. Stats are not great, but mainly due to lack of prep. Holding out for Northwestern, CMU, Berkeley, and Case Western before I make a decision. UIUC is among my top 5 choices out of 18 or so because of its research status.

Does anyone know when financial aid letters start coming out?

What are everyone’s recommendations for the LAS Scholars Program? Honors classes, pick classes first, etc. but I assume the work load will be larger. Is it worth taking part in?

@BrandonJD yes, someone please answer this.

@slimybananas420 From what I’ve heard for CHP (which I think some honor courses overlap with so probably the same case), honor courses aren’t supposed to tear down out GPA or anything and we aren’t supposed to get an insane amount more work than another class, so I would say it’s worth.

I third BrandonJD’s question. I would love to know when when finaid comes out too
