In my son’s Illini portal, it stated Financial Aid package will be sent out in mid-March.
@BrandonJD , @Zeppelin7 My financial aid package is in the ui integrate self service portal now, under the award history tab, yours might be as well.
Can anyone make suggestions regarding freshmen dorms? S is looking for shared room, communal bathroom, easy access to classes and food. Newer building is a plus but he is flexible. Engineering major, but probably will be taking mostly core classes as first year, right? Thank you!
We are wondering the same thing. Are there dorms known for being rowdier or quieter? Is there a best dining hall? Do they all have vegetarian options?
You may want to check out the UIUC Reddit page.

Also, check out the University of Illinois Class of 2020 FaceBook pages…I think there are several.
People will sometimes post in order to find a room mate.
@88jm19 Thank you!
In case anyone is wondering, at the CS tour they said the acceptance rate for this year was lower than 7.5% (300 out of 4000+ accepted). Crazy competitive year.
@infiniteCircle It just goes to show the deceiving nature of UIUC’s 60% acceptance rate. People apply to it as a safety not realizing the major they applied to has top 10 school acceptance rates.
@Nedcone yep. At the tour they revealed some impressive stats about those who were accepted. I thought it was a safety but found out soon after I applied that UIUC was very prestigious for CS.
Does anybody know what the acceptance rate for physics is? I can’t find it anywhere for some reason.
Anyone thinking about UIUC for CS? I’m trying to decide between Ga Tech, UIUC, and U Mich.
@infiniteCircle They are all great colleges! I would go with your in-state one whichever one among the three!
@infiniteCircile I’m in the same boat aswell, i end up choosing GaTech amongst the 3 colleges +UCLA, just because Gatech has a better life (in the heart of Atlanta), less asians (i’m an asian… going to UIUC, UMich and UCLA is like going to china town JK) and generally more stem students.
@Jubilantlearner are you in state for any of those? My in state is UIUC and I like it, but GA Tech does have a much more STEM focused student body which I like. Also the campus is very nice as well. It’s a tough decision becuase UIUC will likely be cheaper and it does have a very highly ranked CS program. It’s a hard to decide right now.

I think you are confusing enrollment rate with acceptance rate. UIUC CS Eng usually has around 300 seats available for freshman. Their yield is probably around 40%. So they would need to accept around 750 applicants with 40% enrolling to fill the 300 seats.
Therefore, the UIUC CS acceptance rate is probably closer to 19% (750/4000). Still pretty low, but not as low as the Top 4 programs (UCB, Stanford, MIT, CM) which do have acceptance rates in the single digits.
@johnm20 UIUC CS has been decreasing freshmen enrollment for a while now. Sure in 2012 they may have wanted 300 freshmen enrolled, but in 2015 they only had 100 freshmen enroll. Sounds very arrogant of you to assume infinitecircle misunderstood or misheard.
You’re way off, Ksty1098. In 2014 there were approximately 300 freshmen starting in CS in 2014 out of 2600 applicants and around 400 out of 3300 in 2015. My acceptance rate of 19% was most likely too low, probably closer to 25%. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you posted in the wrong thread. It might be a good idea to have your mom or dad review your comments going forward.
@johnm20 According to the UIUC common data set there are 100 freshmen enrolled for the CS class of 2019, 217 enrolled for the class of 2018, and 299 enrolled for the class of 2017. I’m not sure exactly where you got your information from but mine is directly from UofI, http://www.dmi.illinois.edu/stuenr/class/enrfa15.htm . Regardless you should be try to be a nicer person, I hope you are not this rude and awful in person!
@Ksty1098 There are 7 CS courses at UIUC. 1. CS in the College of Engineering 2. Math & CS 3. Stats & CS 4. CS & Anthropology 5. CS & Astronomy 6. CS & Chemistry 7. CS & Linguistics.
When people talk about CS at UIUC, they refer to all CS programs. If you add up the number of students across all the CS courses from the table you will get a number greater than 200 (219 at least).
