UIUC COB or IU Kelley?

Daughter has been accepted into both UIUC COB and IU Kelley. From all the ranking we see, IU kelley ranks much higher than UIUC COB. We are IL resident, so UIUC tuition will be only half of what IU charges. Money is not major concern, which school should she pick?

If cost is not a concern, Kelley. But I am not sure it is worth $100k more than UIUC COB. What does your daughter want to do after college. If he goal is to work in Chicago, I don’t think Kelley presents a major advantage over UIUC COB.

I would recommend UIUC. Money was not an issue for us and both my son and daughter chose Gies (UIUC COB).

I don’t have time right now to type out a long reply, but I’ll link a couple of threads where I share my opinion. I’ll check back later and answer any questions you may have.

UIUC is better overall school with better students. Difference in B schools is not that large in practice. UI has better accting program and IU might be better for finance. Both place well in Chicago…

Thanks much for the posted comments! My daughter wants to study finance and may stay in chicago or go to another big city.

In my opinion the only reason to choose Kelley over UIUC would be for their Investment Banking Workshop.

If your daughter has the desire, the ability and understands the competition/rigor associated with the IB path, then perhaps the extra cost would be worth it. Aside from that, I feel Gies is the (much) better choice for Illinois residents.

At Gies you get a small school experience within a large university. Job placement, especially in the Chicago area, is wonderful. My daughter graduated in May. She loves the fact that she has a lot of friends in the area. It’s been wonderful.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. I’ll help if I can.

@barrons, actually, UIUC is better-known for accounting and Kelley is known for it’s IB workshop.

I wouldn’t pay that much more for Kelley, though. Especially if you want to end up in Chicagoland.

Thought I said that.

@barrons: Oh right.

Thanks everyone for your input! I think we will not pay$80-$100k more for Kelley, will go with UIUC.
