so im looking at these dorm options and am wondering if any current or former students know which ones are any good.
Im an engineering major so id like to stay near the engineering quad but it also isnt a necessity. Also would prefer if the dining hall is located within the building so i dont have to go outside to reach it. I have a few ideas for which dorms suit me but i just wanted to see if there is any info yall have that might not be posted on their website that could be of use figuring out which dorm would be the best option.
Current UIUC student (and in CoE) here, the best dining halls, in terms of quality and variety, are the Ike (connected to Nugent) and PAR. Also if you want to get hot food after 8PM, PAR is the only dining hall open, although ISR and Ike do have some hot food available for credits. If you want to live close to the engineering quad, ISR is your best bet, however the bus system is good enough that no matter where you live it’s not too far from the engineering quad. Also, be advised that most spots in the newer/nicer dorms may be full of upperclassmen by the time your date in the lottery comes up. On the fourth day out of ten, the only options left were Snyder, FAR, PAR, and LAR. I ended up at LAR my freshman year, which was relatively close to the quad (~15min walk to Siebel, about NE end of campus) and had a decent dining hall and room size.
Overall, I think most incoming freshmen, including myself, worried too much about where they were going to live. It really doesn’t matter too much with our well-connected campus. Anywhere you end up will be fine.
alright thanks man
