Have any of you guys submitted your housing contracts yet? If so, what are your dorm choices, in order of preference? And did you specify a roommate?

Hope I don't get someone who parties too much...Honestly, I'm not a partier at all and would much rather focus on my studies at UIUC. Sometimes it scares me a bit when UIUC students say that there's nothing to do but drink and party...that's the last thing I want to be doing.

lol ok I guess I should be glad I put down ISR as my first choice then. But I'm assuming it's gonna be pretty hard to get in since it's mostly upperclassmen and I'm only an entering freshman?

ISR, Busey-Evans, and LAR are all pretty hard to get into for freshmen, since upperclassmen like to live there. Most freshmen will get assigned to one of the party dorms that I mentioned. It all depends on the luck of the draw.

Bromley Hall is a very nice place. A friend of mine lives there, and I had the opportunity to check it out in October. It's a nice looking building with nice rooms; it even has a swimming pool which is a good thing. Illini Tower is really nice too. I think i've almost decided to go Certified Private housing.

yeah i looked at the websites for Bromley Hall and Illini Tower and i really like them. They are only about $1,000 more for a double room right?? So i dont think thats bad at all.

Does anyone know when they notify us whether there is space left for certified housing? I want to apply to Europa House and cancel my housing contract if they notify me before May 1.

"Does anyone know when they notify us whether there is space left for certified housing?"

Not sure what your status is? You need to apply to a certified housing place to be able to get a room. If they are full (many upper classmen choose those and have priority) they will hold your app, put you on a waiting list, and then later inform you if space is available. Without an app in somewhere, I do not believe the particular housing unit will have you on a waiting list so it can inform you whether there is space left. If you are already on a waiting list somewhere, you may (and probably will) hear before May 1 because others will start bowing out before then; however, they continue to notify applicants as space becomes available even through mid-August just before students show up, so ultimately it depends on how far down a waiting list you are.

how much more does it cost for private housing than dorms? Should I stay in dorm my first year and then transfer out? what are the advantages/disadvantages?

I'm confused about Bromley's certified housing application. Do I first register using Bromley's Online Application, sit around and wait for Bromley to respond w/ whether there is room available, and THEN finish the deal by sending in the R&B Addendum? And is there an application fee?

Ok never mind about the previous question. I got it figured out.

But now...can someone tell me more about Armory House? I visited its site but it doesnt say much...From the map it seems like it's pretty far from the quad. Is it?

From what i heard ISR is full of nerds and geeks and the rooms are the SMALLEST out of the whole campus. I chose Busey-evans as my 1st choice (although i'm a fresh so its not likely). I also dont like to party at all. A lot of my friends went with the substance-free option (which is pretty much garunteed if u put it into your first choice) this is a good option b/c you'll prbly get assigned to the 'party dorms' (aka 6 pack) and the ppl not into that choose substance free

alot of people that don't get there first choice usually end up at PAR/FAR not the 6-pack as it is highly requested. Also Allen Hall is another place for many of the non-accepted. ISR is full of nerds and geeks but as with every dorm you will find a place to fit in.

My twin brother and I currently have a lease for the new CPM building on 512 S. third st. (the luxury apartments). We have a four bedroom place for the two of us so far because two of our friends bailed out at the last second. We are looking for 2 roommates but one would even do. The years rent is around $6,000. I know it seems like alot but this place is totally worth it. It has never been lived in and has two floors, three full bathrooms, four bedrooms, granite counter tops, a huge living room, a view of the park, a washer dryer, and it is close to the campus. This place is nothing but luxurious. We have bought a brand new couch and a 52'' plasma tv for next year thanks to our older brother who got drafted to the NY Rangers. My brother and I our nice and easy to get along with, so if you need a place Email me at mmontoy2@uiuc.edu to get more info.
Thanks
