UIUC - EA applicants Class of 2025

I really don’t know the scene at UT this year! Our eldest son was accepted to UIUC in 2014, but attended UT Austin, since we live here (I am a Professor at UT Austin). But this year has been ridiculous, with UT capping applicants with amazing stats! Thankful that UIUC admissions officers read our twins’ research details, and considered them worthy of the coveted Illini CS.

Wow double legacy and they ignored… Texas is indeed a mess. Stay safe.

Accepted into Civil Engineering, but having done a few job shadows during Covid, I really don’t like it. Any idea how hard it is to switch to another discipline within Grainger? Civil was my second choice in engineering.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to switch majors (to accounting? Ik gies is competitive)? Or would I even be able to switch within the college I’m in (College of arts and sciences)? I am in state btw

Congratulations on your acceptance into UIUC LAS!

I am not sure how competitive it is to transfer into Gies from LAS, but here is the process: Intercollegiate Transfer (ICT) | Gies College of Business | UIUC

I recommend you participate (if you can) in one of the virtual admissions sessions listed on that page, they are coming up in march/april.

UT was crazy this year! My daughter is in BHP there and loves it, but my son wasn’t interested in applying. She just told me they cancelled 3 more days of classes next week. Hope things get better down there, such a mess! UIUC takes a holistic view of applications and opposite of UT doesn’t give any more weight to in state residents than OOS so all have an equal opportunity, so that helped OOS a lot this year and probably hurt in state since we’re in poor financial shape, but there are other avenues for those who really want to attend if they wish. It’s a phenomenal CS program so good luck to your twins if they come and if they survived this recent cold snap in Austin, they’ll be well prepared for Illinois weather!

Texas doesn’t take legacy into account because almost everyone is a legacy! They have other rules also as far as admitting students there, like top 5% of every high school class is auto admitted, but with such a huge population base, they can’t admit everyone else so it’s highly challenging and their process of acceptances this year, they came out in crazy waves at intermittent times was very frustrating to many people. They also only accept 8-10% OOS which makes it very difficult to get into if you’re OOS which is not something UIUC cares about, which instead hurts our own residents while we continue to pay outrageous property taxes, sales tax and income tax. But that’s how it crumbles!

Can anyone pls advise me on UIUC appeals. I really want to get in but am not sure what new info they want. Please help out.

Any advice on if i should appeal for my first choice major or if i should do DGS or a compeltely new major. Am rly unsure pls help out.

What are your stats, major(s) applied, outcome, what are other options at other colleges, what you like as career.
In general, new info is a significant change in profile since you applied, like received a well known award, published a paper, grades were improved drastically in senior year 1st half, from an average Joe to top of class…just to name few…

My stats up until first sem of junior year were not the best due to some extenuating circumstances. However after that i’ve gotten straight As. I have also gotten into several internships pertaining to my desired field of study.

i was denied for Community Health (first chocie) and Psych (second choice.) What should i appeal for? DGS?

@srparent15, I have seen many of your posts as my son seems to be interested in the schools you are you are active on (UIUC, UT, Cornell). I was curious why you suggest UIUC takes a holistic view of applications with such a short essay, limited space compared to others with regards to the EC’s and no letters of recommendations being used.

Also advanced to nationals for a competition, publishing research next month, got involved with a well known organization and hosting an event with them…lots of new involvement and such.

However for appeal it says they don’t care for our 7th sem grades or activities?

Accepted CS+Econ, OOS
