UIUC Transfer

I am an undergrad student from India currently studying in BITS Pilani.I was accepted into UIUC into computer science (Engineering).
The deadline for sending all the docs is coming and hence i have to make a quick decision.
Is UIUC good for CS undergrad and is adjusting to the transfer load easy there. I would have to take some CS courses which are of the first yr at UIUC in my second yr as they were college not taught in my. Will this create a major backlog for me as i would have to do both year courses. Also i would not be able to do some courses of the second yr which have a prerequisite of these first yr courses.

So the main question is would it be possible to adapt to the new environment with the added load. Also is there any kind of scholarship i can avail as internationals dont get financial aid.

BUMP.!!!

Hi, I am also an international student. I am from Bangladesh. From this thread it seems that you were accepted to UIUC as a transfer student. I am really sorry that I can’t answer your question since I will be a freshman in a US university in this fall and don’t know much about transferring. I also want to transfer to UIUC like you, can you please help me? What was your SAT score when you applied to the university? Also did you get any financial aid from the university if so then how much? Please help a fellow international student like me and I will really appreciate your help [-O< . And congratulation for getting into your dream University :)>-

my sat score was 1900 but i was in the top 10 of my batch in BITS which is a great thing

UIUC is pretty garbage, I just transferred out of there.

The engineering program might be ranked sort of high, but the kids are honestly really not very bright. Even if you do manage to find some smart people in engineering, they are often socially inept to the point that you wonder if the students have some mild form of autism.

You will however find a ton of foreign people from India at UIUC. They rarely interact with people outside of their own bubbles, and seem to be really uninterested in trying to meet people from the US, which begs the question: why would you come to an American university if you don’t want to learn and assimilate the culture…

Regardless, I’m going to end my rant here. If you do wind up going to Illinois I really hope you make an effort to hang out with as many non-internationals as possible.

Did you get any financial aid or scholarships from UIUC?
@Avareco
What was your SAT score when you transferred?

2250

@Avareco‌
Which University did you transfer to? Did you transfer to any ivy league university? If so then what is the name of the Ivy league University?

Did you get any financial aid?

This is worth reading:

In any case, college is what you make of it. There are quite a few successful UIUC engineering grads that I know of, BTW (successful as in they made millions of dollars from their startup).

The lack of social skills of the engineering students there doesn’t surprise me. Illinois Engineering doesn’t exactly look for that in their applicants. Quite a strong network in Silicon Valley regardless, however.
