UIUC Vs Boston university for MS in Biomedical engineering

I am confused about which university to go for! I am an international student who got accepted into both of these universities. I want to know about both the universities from a student perspective.

  1. how competitive are the academics? how are the faculties? what are the expectations?
  2. how difficult is it to get financial aid or scholarships? and what is the criteria?
  3. how student friendly is Boston and Urbana champaign?
  4. Which university would be cheaper to study at considering the residence, food and other costs?
  5. which university is better weatherwise?
  6. which university has better internships/placements?
  7. which name tag is better?
Please help me out. I would be truly grateful. Thanks.

You should have already had the answers to these questions when you first applied.

1 and 2 are very school specific and you need to reach out to the schools to answer those.

Boston is probably the best city for students/young professionals as there are a plethora of schools in the area. So it shouldn’t be too hard to meet other people.

Urbana Champaign is a smaller town in Illinois but is dominated by the college. UC is probably cheaper for the most part and you can go to Chicago for nightlife etc.

Internships/placements you would have to do the research on. I would assume both would be pretty good. Boston U might get you more connections due to the area it is in tho.

Boston University is higher ranked in biomedical engineering, but Illinois is overall much higher ranked and better known for engineering.

Chicago is a 2 1/2 hour drive on a good day. Urbana-Champaign is a nice college town, but it is nothing but corn and beans for 50 miles in any direction.
