I've been looking at the three schools for awhile now and I can't decide which would be a better fit for me. Each offers a program I'm interested but I know there is a big difference in the environment. Any opinions on the schools or opinions on the benefits/disadvantages of an urban versus traditional campus?

You may want to describe what is important to you, your major, what state you are from, etc. IU and UIUC have a lot more in common than Loyola in terms of size, environment, etc.

I’m from Indiana and at IU and UIUC I would get a Geography degree but at Loyola an Environmental Studies degree (I plan to get an Urban Planning masters.) For me I need a lot of things going on both on-campus and off-campus. Also, I would love to be able to do a lot of volunteering and I can’t tell if I’d have more opportunities to do this at Loyola or a more traditional school like IU and UIUC. I’m also concerned over how academically challenged I’d be because I earned a 28 on the ACT which fits into the upper ranges of Loyola but the lower ranges of Illinois. Thanks for responding!

You should visit and see which one fits best and where the finances work out best for you. You certainly have a lot of volunteering opportunities all around Loyola but those can be found at UIUC and IU as well. If you are concerned about not being challenged sufficiently at Loyola, don’t be. You can always take a challenging curriculum by carefully choosing your courses.
