When filling in the online version of the form, I am required to reproduce a teacher's recommendation. However, I would like to know how this reference is validated? Is my referee sent a mail? Is s/he called up?

Your feedback would be much appreciated, would help me decide whether to take the online or paper application form

As far as i know a selection of References are randomly checked when UCAS get in touch with the referee provided to ensure that the statement in their name is indeed from them. Its the same for either the method of application so you should just stick with the online way as its quicker, cheaper and UCAS will process your application sooner.

some colleges (in my case Machester) asked me to have my teacher email the recommendation as a confirmation (maybe coz it was too good :p )

i dont know of many ppl who use paper application form. You from India, right? If your teachers are as lazy as mine, just have your teacher write a 1 reco and ask for their permission to retype it on ucas.

I printed out the recommendation page for my teacher so that he could see it a formulate a response. Then, while in class I opened up my UCAS account and let him copy and paste the recommendation into the page. Then he just filled out the part at the top and I was done.

Yup, I am from India, and I would say the same applies to my teachers as well :) However, how do I know whether the university I apply to wants the teacher to send it to them? Does each university inform me individually?
