I don’t think you have to check WA to know if you’ll be taken off the waiting list. They say they’ll inform you. That generally means they’ll email.

I’m going to UNC Chapel Hill even if I clear the list. I’m just on it for the heck of it.

As a dad, whose S came off 5 wait lists last year, I know how tough this can be. You are all doing yourselves a disservice if you don’t stick to facts here. Has anyone heard from a verifiable source that they have even begun to go to the Wait List? Of the last 10 years, many years UM has take ZERO from the waitlist but in selected years, 100 were taken, and though we have yet to verify it, it appears in 1 year multiple hundreds were taken.
If you have received any communication from UM reagrding the waitlist, that is what you want to post, not that you “heard they were taking kids off” or that “someone knew someone who knew someone who was rejected.”

Anything other than facts are just a waste of every ones time, and, in a way, hurtful to you folks who care and are waiting to hear.

SO, if anyone has any facts, post them. If not, go play somewhere else. From where I am, the Admission Office has NOT released any information yet, and it appears no one who posts here was accepted or rejected yet, OFF THE WAIT LIST. If I’m in error about trhat, please post.
and post a fact.

blue_box you are hurting the rest of us by staying on the WL.
UNC Chapel is an amazing school and I wish I would have gotten in, but I didnt, and now I am relying on Michigan to make my dreams come true. If you are NO DOUBT going to UNCCH, you’d be doing us all a favor by withdrawing from the WL.

I’ll withdraw if I really was hurting your chances, but I don’t see how. I’m not going to accept an acceptance offer from the WL, so that offer will go to another person anyway. I’m not going to double deposit.

blue box, if UM is gonna take 100 people off the list, include you and you are not gonna go, there isn’t a double waitlist and only 99 people end up going there.

You mean there aren’t waves of waitlist offers? After they release one set of decisions, they automatically reject everyone else from the waitlist? I think UM will be the only school that does that then.

I am an international waitlisted applicant. I emailed the intl rep of UMICH n she told me that it is highly unlikely they’ll b goin to the waitlist this year.

Thanks Alexandre…
Im a bit dissapointed in the UM admissions process as it seems like they waitlisted everyone who they didnt get to. But then again its my fault for procrastinating on the application.

Disappointing and unprofessional way of handling admission process!! Waitlisted so many and kept their hopes live. If they deny them in a timely manner these candidates can relate to the place where they belong. I read similar sentiments in another thread and now I fully endorse that viewpoint.

Upfront, Michigan should clearly indicate how slim one’s chances are of coming off of the waitlist. Each year, over 2,000 students join the waitlist and each year, Michigan will end up admitting anywhere from 0 to 200. Most years, that number is either 0 or very close to it. Only once or twice in the last decade has Michigan truly resorted to accepting waitlisted students.

Either way, one’s chances aren’t great. There is bound to be disapointment and resentment, but I agree that the University can handle this part of admissions a little better.

Michigan’s handling of the waitlist is kinda erratic historically:

2009: 100 were taken out of 2,440 on the waitliat
2008: 321 out of 3,659
2007: 0 out of 2,067
2006: 525 out of 2,776
2005: 0 out of 1,863
2004: 5 out of 1,537

It depends on how far off the predicted yield is from the actual. Any news on whether they have over- or under- admitted this year?

Again, the international pool is separated from the domestic pool. So even if they are not taking any more from the international waitlist, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are not taking any from the domestic pool.

p.s. I agree that the university should offer less people the opportunity to stay on the waitlist.

something new i got
the Student Center’s decision icon disappears, maybe there will be decisions soon.
Anyone else has found their icon disappeared as mine?

I chatted with someone on the live help thing and she said the view decision link will return when a final decision is made and that final decisions will begin coming out in the next week or two.
