UMASS Amherst 2021 wait list discussion

Separate, dedicated thread to discuss wait list activity.

Wait list FAQ - http://www.umass.edu/admissions/sites/default/files/pdf/Waitlist_faq_f17.pdf

How soon after the May 1 Deadline will students hear if they have been accepted from the waitlist?

From link above:

If we decide to admit students from the waitlist, we will begin making contact around mid-May.

Students will be contacted about their interest in being considered for
spring admissions once the fall class has been closed.

Last year, people started hearing back from them May 8/9th. Hopefully we hear something soon.

Received from Admissions last week:

Dear XXXX,

Earlier this year, we reviewed your application to the University of Massachusetts Amherst and offered you a place on our wait list for the Fall 2017 semester. Given the continued level of interest our admitted students have shown, we are unable to offer you a place in our Fall 2017 entering class.

However, we are contacting you regarding your continued interest in UMass Amherst. You indicated your desire to attend the university in the Spring 2018 term. Prior to admitting you for the spring term, we will need to review your final high school transcript to ensure that you maintained adequate academic performance. Please arrange for your final high school transcript to be sent to the Admissions Office by September 15, 2017. Your admission will not be processed until we receive your final high school transcript. Additionally, we request that you inform the Admissions Office if any previously unreported disciplinary issues have occurred since you initially submitted your application to us. We will notify you of your admissions decision by the end of September. Students who initially applied to our selective majors in nursing, computer science, engineering or business will be admitted to their second choice major when appropriate.

We would encourage you to use the Fall 2017 semester to your advantage by enrolling in a local college to stay on track academically. Most college-level theory courses will transfer to UMass Amherst. Our recommendations are: English composition; math, based on college placement exam (business, science, and engineering majors); introductory course in planned major; broad-based history course; and/or social science course (psychology, sociology, anthropology, economics, political science).

This offer to join the university mid-year is in recognition of your strong academic performance. I hope you will seriously consider joining us. If you are no longer interested in UMass Amherst, please email us at admreq@admissions.umass.edu and you will be removed from our mailing list.

XXXXX,

Congratulations! On behalf of our campus community, I am delighted to let you know that you have been accepted to the University of Massachusetts Amherst for the Spring 2018 entering class.

You have been admitted to Undecided - Natural Sciences Track. If this was not your preferred major, UMass Amherst has more than 100 undergraduate degree programs to choose from, and many students change majors once on campus. For students who either auditioned or submitted a portfolio and haven’t yet heard from the department, your major may still change based upon the results of your audition or portfolio review.

At UMass Amherst you will join a diverse campus community of bright, bold, and unconventional thinkers, where classroom exploration and research are complemented by hundreds of extracurricular activities, top-tier athletics, opportunities to engage with the local community, and extraordinary award-winning food, all in a beautiful setting. We are proud of our tradition of excellence and we look forward to your contributions to our community.

If you haven’t already done so, please submit and or add UMass Amherst to your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. (The UMass Amherst school code is 002221.) To receive full consideration for aid your information needs to be to us no later than December 1, 2017. If you have already sent your FAFSA information our way, there is no need to send it again.

To solidify your place in the entering class for Spring 2018, please pay your nonrefundable $500 enrollment fee online via the QuikPay System. To pay, you will need your SPIRE ID, which is: xxxxxx

Please note: Your acceptance is not currently reflected on your Student Status Page. We are implementing a new system and that step will be completed shortly. When it is, we will send an email asking you to log in and complete a few additional steps.

We look forward to welcoming you to campus this spring.

Sincerely,

James Roche
Vice Provost, Enrollment Management
