UMass Amherst 2023 Decisions

I know a lot of OOS kids waiting still. as well so their release seems very random.

UMass needs to get their act together and figure how to get decisions released in a timely manner. Frankly they should be embarrassed by their process. It certainly doesn’t shine a positive light on the entire university. Who seriously looks forward to enrolling their kid in a place which can’t even figure out the first official interaction with the school? As a MA resident I feel like it’s a slap.in the face to all in state kids who get strung along.

I agree!! @RightCoaster how can they release some admission decisions if they are not finished with all of them? and if they are finished, then what is the wait on releasing them?

I have a current soph at umass and it has been great, so the admissions process is not reflective of the school in general. The RD process is no better I know someone who got accepted after 5/1 2 yrs ago( was not deferred first!) It was their first choice school but they ultimately went somewhere else because they needed to make a deposit. Two years ago it was no better with weeks passing between acceptances.

@waf107 I actually think UMass is a decent place and on an upward trajectory but their admissions department must be run by folks who just don’t understand or care how ridiculously backwards their process is. Maybe they should grab a consultant from Isenberg to recommend a new plan.

My son and I were at UMass on Saturday and spoke with an Admissions Counselor. Son’s first choice was engineering, so that’s what we thought was holding up the decision. Her response was that releasing information has nothing to do with programs and everything to do with the location which the student lives. She said that since almost all MA seniors apply to UMass, they try to release in-state at one time so some kids don’t receive an acceptance while others hear nothing for another week or so. She then told us to “Sit-back, relax, and enjoy the break” and “not to worry about it during the holidays.” My son and I took that to mean that they don’t plan on releasing ANY in-state until January. It is really unfortunate, it would be nice to have that information before the break.

Sit back and relax, lol.

That is not what they have done the past 2 years. So perhaps they have made a change, but since they bothered to send an email that said acceptance would start 12/10, maybe they should have added that instate would be on a different schedule! EA acceptances for instate for the last 2 yrs were spread out over several weeks. And it wasn’t fair to the students left wondering.

To all the instate folks - I quote the late, great Tom Petty: “THE WAITING IS THE HARDEST PART.” Like @RightCoaster says, “Sit back and relax, lol.”

We’re international and we are still waiting! :expressionless:

I’m also international :frowning: the waiting is just too stressful

I don’t have a problem with waiting, it’s the date. Give a realistic date of when the majority of acceptances will be ready and use that date! If they get too many to really do it, just defer to RD, like NU does

I am not sure why it was told it was by student locations. We are OOS. My daughter was one of the lucky ones that got her acceptance on the 10th. Her best friend still has not heard yet, nor have several others in her same school

We are in state and I have a daughter who currently attends UMass. With her year it definitely was NOT by location or by program. My daughter got her acceptance more than a week before her friend, who lives less than a mile from us and applied the same weekend, to the same program. So I can’t really figure out how they do it. I just know my son is really stressed with the waiting.

this waiting is killing me !! just wish i knew when decisions would be available/how they’re categorizing decision releases so i’m not checking the portal all the time. based on my decisions so far i think i’ll probably get in but scholarships are unlikely so i just want to get it all over with.

@RightCoaster I couldn’t agree with you more. UMass Amherst should be giving all to its in state students and the fact that we are held to stricter criteria is discriminatory. On the basis of equal opportunity for all students, the criteria should be the same.

Accepted into Honors College for CS!!
In-State
1530 SAT/35 ACT/4.8 weighted gpa
Lot’s of Clubs/ECs and 2 leadership positions

Accepted in-state as well – where are the financial aid letters? Do they usually come with admission decision? Mine only said Deans Award ($2000 a year)…

Congratulations!!! I have one that graduated and 2 there now! They all LOVE it there!
Waiting to hear about last one! He applied EA sports management. Fingers Crossed!

Finally someone instate got accepted! Congratulations! Hopefully more of us will get acceptances soon!
