UMass Amherst 2023 Decisions

Waiting with fingers crossed for son. Daughter got into BU ED today. Stress is palpable in this house. Enough already!

@Mum2twins Congrats to you daughter. Wishing good thoughts for your son!

does umass amherst super score?
My son applied Early Decision with 1300 SAT 4.2 GPA-

He has since took the SAT again and scored 1,350 and had them sent to UMA. Question is, will UMass consider his latest score? or is it tool late?

@Ezga3969 they are considering me for EA, might wanna ask when you call though. good luck!

Did anyone hear back tonight? This is actually painful

@somp01 Oof then I will. Thanks for actually informing me of that, I couldn’t find anything out from their website and other friends applying. Thought it was a glitch haha

yes they do also with those stats your son could probably do better than UMASS.

Anyone else annoyed that in-state are not hearing back yet?!! Strange!!

UMass has been getting criticized for admitting too many out of state students. They want the out of state tuition. https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2016/05/18/think-tank-criticizes-umass-for-growth-out-state-students/V6tIPYko285VFAghlwbntL/story.html

PLUS: UMass Amherst accepts lower scores from out of state applicants than in state applicants. Not fair. https://www.wbur.org/edify/2018/05/29/out-of-state-admissions-to-umass

anyone heard back from nursing major? I hope they will release some today as I didn’t see anyone posting any update yesterday

@jenmie I am applying for Nursing OOS and have not heard anything. But my friend who lives in MA also applied with a nursing major and hasn’t heard anything. The wait is killing me!!

@azcollege2023 I saw the thread from last year and the school didn’t release decisions for nursing major until the first week of Jan :frowning: I hope this year they will release earlier

I also saw on the thread from last year that if you are not accepted into the nursing program then you are not granted admission at all… is this true?

Yes, that is true @azcollege2023. Only at UMass Amherst though - other locations (like UMass Boston) may admit you with a second-choice major.

My daughter was accepted to nursing major on the 10th. OOS, 4.0 unweighted, 32 ACT, lots of honors/AP classes, xtra science classes, 4 year sport (cheer), leadership positions and volunteer hours.

I was told by the school, that in the comments section of your application, you can indicate that you want to be considered for other majors at Umass Amherst if not accepted to Nursing, but if not then you are not considered for it.

Just an FYI - if you read thru past years forums, many in-state students do not get decisions until more like mid January. OOS and International typically get their decisions much earlier. My friends daughter got accepted last year and they did not hear until sometime in January. Some people last year seemed to get particularly frustrated because it took even longer than that. I find it frustrating because applying early is supposed to eliminate the need to apply to other schools if accepted (if UMass is 1st choice) - but if they don’t release by 1/1st my son still has to apply to other schools because that’s the regular decision deadline at many other schools :frowning:

@ile/azcollege2023 , correct. My DD was told the same thing during the HS recruitmant session, UMass Amherst is a “direct entry” Nursing program and if you don’t get in most likely UMass will not offer you admissions under an undeclared major. Makes sense as there is no way to transfer into the Nursing program at a later date and most likely those whom apply to various BSN programs do not care to just get in xyz college for the sake of it and not get a BSN

OOS D17 waiting to hear if she is in… Nursing or bust !! fingers crossed and good luck to all

Totally agree, my son said he will apply no where else if gets accepted to umass honors, but if he doesn’t hear by Christmas he will. He has his other EA decisions, there is no excuse for the craziness at umass, the other decisions came from large state universities with similar applicant pools. And imo instate should hear first not last.
