UMass Amherst 2023 Decisions

My daughter is OOS Criminal Justice major. Anyone with this major been accepted?

I currently have one son at Umass Amherst and my youngest just got accepted. We received the decision this past Monday evening. In state, 4.0 unweighted, lots of AP, 1400 SAT, lots of EC, English major.

This is a post from today on FB from Umass Amherst regarding admissions.

Today officially brings an end to the Fall 2018 semester so we wanted to provide you with an update on applications/decisions as we head into the holiday week…

We received more than 20,000 (!!!) Early Action applications this year and are still in the process of reviewing applications for those of you who do not have your decisions. We have indeed already released some decisions, but we have historically had multiple waves of EA decision releases (as we do with Regular Decision, too). That’s no different this year. We do not release by admitted students, deferred students, denied students, major or last name, or any other rumor that you may have heard. In other words, if you have not heard back yet, it does not automatically mean your decision is not going to be the decision you want. Just hang tight – we know you are all eager to see your decision, and we are doing the best we can to get these applications read and the decision released to you in a timely fashion. Keep an eye on your email; you will be notified when your application status changes.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact our office. Our office will be open next week with normal business hours, with the exception of Christmas Day and Friday, December 28th. We will also be closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. We will reopen in 2019 on Wednesday, January 2nd.

Having highschool peers receive their decisions weeks before my child leaves a very bad taste for Umass Amherst for us, especially considering other schools falling over themselves with merit money and other creative money awards. just disappointing.

@Kapzow I completely understand. I’m a little surprised at how this plays out every year. It’s unclear to me what UMass is hoping to accomplish. I’d much rather they say “all EA decisions released on Jan. 2” than this dragged out thing.

When my middle son was accepted at Umass, there were over 42k applications from more than 126 countries.
This is my 3rd child to go to college. Next year, I’ll be paying for 3 in college at the same time. I can tell you that a lot of schools will do whatever they can to get qualified students. It’s a business. They want your $$. My oldest gets a 50% academic scholarship at the private school. We still pay more than we pay for my middle son at Umass Amherst. The middle one was offered a 75% scholarship at that same private school but it would still have been more out of pocket than Umass. The son at Umass is very happy with the school and the education that he’s getting. There’s lots of opportunities for class selection, extracurricular activities/clubs, band, etc. He’s in the HC and truly happy that he chose Umass over all the other schools that had accepted him. Also, he applied regular admission when he did apply.

Don’t let the ‘bad taste’ caused by this relatively poor notification process cause you to not consider UMass. You will have forgotten all about it by June. UMass originally wasn’t even on my son’s radar then he started applying to colleges. He weighed the quality of the programs with the costs and eventually decided on UMass over WPI, RPI, Syracuse, UConn, Northeastern and a bunch of others. In the end, he graduated summa cum laude from Comp Sci department and earned a job with a 6-figure starting salary at one the of the FAANG companies.

It can be worth the wait. Good luck in your college searches!

Thank you for the perspective! It’s easy to lose sight of the end goal sometimes

Along the same lines…people (at least on CC) tend to get their knickers in a knot over things like “what is the BEST dorm” and “what is the right meal plan” etc. There is no “best” or “right”…there is just what works for you child and family. You just want your child to be happy and learn and adult and thrive. #perspective

Are people expecting another wave of decisions to be released tonight?

I’m sure a new wave of decisions will come out at 7:15 tonight because they’ve been coming out every Monday since the decision date was release!! So fingers crossed! (:

Good luck to all of you that are still waiting to hear. My son was accepted a week ago but has many friends who are still waiting to hear. My daughter is a senior at UMass and loves it, and we have found the school to be super easy to deal with despite the large size. I think it is typical of large state universities to release decisions in waves, because of the sheer volume of applications.

?all i want for christmas is u(mass to send me a decision) ?

Anyone??

Nothing here, the wait is torture

Still nothing

Did anyone hear back tonight?

This is actually painful

not yet.

You guys do know it’s Christmas Eve, right? The offices all probably closed at noon today and won’t open again until Wednesday.
