I’m sure I didnt get any scholarships or things of that nature. I was also accepted to my second choice major vs my first which was engineering.

mom2winds–I got curious and emailed the U-Mass art dept this morning asking when they’d let students know about admission into the BFA. Got a prompt (and nice) reply that “the decision letters will be sent soon…that should be by the end of the week” Here’s hoping it’s not any longer than that…

I’m hopeful that we will hear this week. According to the website the last music audition was 3/5. It is tough to wait!

My D program would not be a BFA. It will be be a BM (Bachelor in Music). I am sure that since they have portfolios and auditions to consider, the process application and acceptance process is somewhat different than being accepted into an completely academic program.

Thanks for letting me know what the art department said. I hope you (we) hear soon!

mom2winds–That’s right–for your D it’s the music dept. (My son did a BM in music at Purchase.) Well, it might well be that each fine/performing arts program does things by its own timetable, so we’ll see if we find out at the same time or not. But hopefully it will be soon.

Applied Common App in January, Accepted in March

mom2winds–Good news! D checked her MySlice account this morning, and on the admissions link the message had changed from “pending portfolio review” to “accepted to Studio Art BFA” My guess is that a written acceptance will follow. So maybe your D has good news waiting for her as well…

UAlbany, that’s great news. Congrats to you and your daughter.

I am not familiar to MySlice. Do you mean “SPIRE”? Her online admissions status still says “admitted to College of Arts and Science pending review of your audition or portfolio”. So we still just sit here and wait. But we are optimistic since she got positive feedback at the audition and when she visited the music department a few days later. But the waiting is no fun!

mom2winds–Aargh! “MySlice” is the Syracuse equivalent to “SPIRE” where she has also applied and is awaiting a decision that may come this week. My goof up. Yes, it’s definitely SPIRE that I logged into earlier this morning and then the Admissions link. Ok, no news is not bad news, but I certainly feel your pain of waiting, and waiting, and waiting. D has about 6 more places to hear from, all during the last week of March. You? On a lighter note, I read “Crazy U” this past weekend. You may have seen it reviewed somewhere–the experience of one father going through this process with his son. Eerily accurate and ultimately very cathartic. While I don’t necessarily agree with all of the author’s views on the value of higher ed and reasons for its increasing costs, it was a great read and I highly recommend it to other parents enduring this crazy process.

I figured as much about the MySlice. I know my D was on Spire yesterday and since she did not tell me anything, I suspect there was nothing there. Trying not to hover too much!

The audition/portfolio thing adds another dimension to this process. My D applied to three schools and has been accepted both musically and academically to one. She is waiting the music end from the other two - but has the academic acceptance from both. Hurry up and wait!

“Crazy U” huh? Sounds like a good thing to read about now. I will look for it.

Will you be attending?- Probably not. I’m still waiting for a few Ivy’s and other schools. As for my safeties, i’m considering it, but about 50 people from my high school go there every year, and I really want to be the only person from my high school to go to my college.
