@BostonSportsFan - That’s a great school! I do understand tho. It is hard to be denied for something that is mostly out of your control. It’s ironic that DS hasn’t had a denial yet - we joke about that when we muse over the 3 waitlisted schools. UMass Amherst could be our first…
I’m sure you will love Providence College! I wish you the very best
@fallenwinter, Nope. I’m not doing Mass Transfer. Computer Science program in Umass Amherst follows Java as main language and most other school have C++/Python/Other so I don’t have the pleasure of MassTransfer [courses don’t match]. I have to submit common application just like any other ordinary transfer student. However, my brother is doing Biology so he got in like month ago because of Mass Transfer [All credits are transferable]. He is joining as a junior, Btw. I’m Hopefully that I’ll get in. I think now they’re checking transfer students’ application since all the other applications are done.
Checked the mail today and there it was! OOS California. Admitted into my second choice major (Econ) with an 8k award! 1800 SAT and 3.3 UW GPA.
How easy is it to switch majors? I didn’t think i would not get into Computer science ( my first choice major ) and as much as i like economics I started studying comp science in these past few months and I’ve really gotten into it. Is it possible to switch before the year starts somehow? If not when can i do it?
Also if its not possible to do it before the year starts will i lose out on a lot of time and money or is the first year usually just general studies and whatnot? Thank you in advance!
absolutely, My school is in southeastern MA, close to plymouth. My class consists of about 300 students and roughly 100 students applied (Umass is a very popular choice here)
Accepted. The mail came in today but it was dated on March 31. So there is still hope for those who haven’t heard back. For those who are interested my Unweight GPA is a 3.2 and my Weighted GPA is a 3.6. My Sat is a 1220(CR and Math) and my super score is 1830. Good Luck to those who are still waiting. I understand just how painful UMASS has made this process and how anxious you guys must be.
@CanIgoback - no news! I swear I will be the last poster in this thread. I will be folding up the chairs and switching off the lights @-) I know it can’t be long now…
@ajs1997 so how many students in your school do you estimate are still waiting to hear? It’s seems that there are still a lot of students in MA waiting for a decision. Are you still waiting?
to ppsmom - UMass is a great school and a great campus with a significant amount of money being input to make it an even greater campus. There is a reason that the number of apps goes up every year - more and more people want a quality education at a reasonable price, I think it is sour grapes on your part. My son is a freshman and is doing very well and I am a proud alum myself. Go UMass!
Did anyone get into an Undeclared Exploratory Track ? I applied for CS and there wasn’t enough room apparently. I was wondering if it’s possible to switch into CS if there is enough room, I know roughly 150 kids in my school applied to UMass - a lot of them CS majors. Half of them aren’t even going there, because it’s a safety for them. Is there a chance that I could get a spot if i contact admissions? I’m also attending the Open House for Accepted Students so perhaps if i talk to an admissions officer there…really want to go to umass, but my parents won’t let me unless I get into my preferred major
@ppsmom - Was she engineering? The program here is generally more selective than UConn’s which is the second most selective public engineering school in new England. I would say that even a 2200 SAT is no guarantee to get into the program. (Isenberg business and a few other programs are picky as well) Lastly, any large University campus has it’s good spots and bad spots I can say that UMass seems to be in the middle ground when it comes to this and it gets better every year. (You can’t compare it to the neighboring LAC’s lol)
@joshurt13@emmasawr - CS is easier to switch into than the business program so I would say keep a 3.3+ with some core CS subjects and you could probably transfer. Also, Jos, you could consider a Econ/CS double major!
guys I got into finance in Isenberg with a 1810 sat score and also got 8k/per year scholorships. But probably I won’t go so how do I deny my admission offer???
@ind1900 I would call admissions and tell them you are declining your spot. I know other schools send a letter asking that if you decline that you notify them so they can accept those on the waitlist
