@Nomads77 -congrats!! Wow, do you think your letter got lost in the mail? Are you excited? Are you going to accept? That is a rare and signicant achievement - acceptance to BOTH CHC and CS. You should feel proud. Well done.
@seamus123 I’m sorry, you’ve waited a long time and I was only half joking when I said before that at this point UMass should accept everyone. I don’t know what the odds are for UMass but it seems like a lot of applicants are getting waitlisted this year. What the heck is going on?
OK so I guess my son’s application wasn’t quite under review yet. I just checked his page & it changed from application complete to under review. He applied regular admission in late December. WOW They are just now looking at his application!
So after being deferred and months and months of waiting I finally got my decision on spire this morning… Waitlisted
So now I have a question hopefully someone out there has some knowledge on this. UMass guarantees all waitlisted students spring admission. Is this worth taking? I would enroll at another college for the fall and then enroll at UMass for the spring semester. What would the experience be like academically and socially? Will I be isolated because I started late and have not made any friends? Also, what will the housing options be like? Will I have any preference for housing or will they put me wherever there is space available? Hopefully someone can answer, thanks.
Btw I am in-state so financially it would be helpful to attend UMass.
Son received waitlist notice on Spire this a.m. Knew he was a bubble applicant who did get into similar schools so odds (and 5 month wait) made a waitlist most likely scenario. Primarily for those applying next year for Class of 2020: 3.4 gpa w. strong upward trend; 1700 SAT; excellent ECs. Good luck to those still waiting.
@SQBrit- Glad to see that your wait is finally over and has a happy ending. Even though we did not go through what you have gone through (My D applied EA and heard in December that she got accepted to Isenberg and CHC), I have been reading these posts and feeling frustrated along with the rest of you. It is awful that some people still have not heard! Went to the Isenberg Accepted students day on Satruday. If I was someone that still hadn’t heard and the Accepted students day had come and gone, I’d be furious!
Here’s hoping for good news for those of you still waiting!
@SQBrit Congrats on finally hearing and having a good result. It’s been tough for us to reach a decision but son seems close to eliminating UMASS from his list. At this point it’s looks like it’s between Northeastern and URochester. Good luck with whatever you ultimately decide.
first post here - i’ve been lurking since last fall, thanks for all the very informative posts
Daughter applied EA, was deferred, and just found out she was waitlisted
3.5 WGPA, 27 ACT, excellent ECs and professionally focused volunteer/intern (special ed)
she will major in Communications Disorders and Sciences, and will now be attending UVM in the fall. Also accepted to UNH and Quinnipiac, but she really loved the small, focused feel of the Health Sciences School at UVM. Burlington is a plus too. some merit aid, but still a BIG gap between UVM and UMass in cost.
I really wish we could take advantage of instate cost at UMass, perhaps in January if UVM isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. Too expensive to stay there if it’s not perfect.
good luck to everyone. no matter where they end up, once they land in September, they will be great, and won’t look back.
@kdubya, my son also applied EA and was also wait listed even though his friend who is ranked 2 slots below him at their HS was accepted with a crazy amount of merit. My son is going to UVM as well, we are OOS for both UMASS and UVM, son wanted UVM anyway, great location!
@SQBrit Yay!!! finally! Home stretch for you now…the decisions were easier than the waiting so you’re almost there. Good luck to your family on wherever your son chooses to go.
Congrats @SQBrit! I don’t even know you but have been checking in to learn the final decision! Trying to decide wher my S16 should apply next year . . .
@crowalady -thank you. As they say in MA - “what a sagar!” seems like UMass had a final push to get most if not all of the decisions out by the end of last week. We are just glad to have 2 decent choices (and honestly 1 would have been enough too). Who needs more than that?
@Sapphire50 - Yes you called it. DS was accepted. Please keep us informed on your final decision. DS has 2 very different choices but for many reasons that are individual and key to who he is - we think he will choose UMass.
@Rebecca1212 Congratulations. ha, ha, that’s what you call a curve ball. It’s really just as good as an acceptance to Engineering. The exploratory track is designed for students to consider a variety of majors and he only needs a 2.0 to transfer to Engineering. A pretty good deal IMHO.
@BLJ123 - What a ride! 5.5 months of waiting. DS was v happy to receive the acceptance letter today and cheekily told me that his friends were led to believe that he had been accepted all along . He was also quick to rag on his best friend that HE unlike dear friend wasn’t officially rejected by any schools (no just waitlisted to the 1st three).
@ConfusedMominMA - thank you. DS plans to go back to UMass for a tour but probably not the accepted students day on 4/24. He thinks campus visits are pretty pointless because, “I can learn everything on line”. (Hasn’t gone on line once.) What do you do with teenage boys? This isn’t like clothes shopping!
@SQBrit it is rather like my sons’ clothes shopping. I do almost all the online work and they just come in at the end and say “Sure, that one, looks great; you are paying right?”
@Sapphire50 Those are two good choices. Best of luck finalizing decisions.
Good luck to all those still deciding – hopefully there aren’t any more waiting to hear!
