@anon46520165 If you are in to NYU already, wouldn’t that mean you’ve applied ED?
How screwed up is UMass Amherst admissions? My daughter, a top MA public high school honor student going for BioMed got into Northeastern, BU, Tufts, RIT, Drexel, URI (and others) most with scholarships, but got rejected from UMass Amherst. Great GPA, gades, no SAT’s submitted as didn’t have time to take them to cancellations. High EFC, so wouldn’t expect aid. Don’t understand.
if it was her top choice, appeal.
Tufts hasn’t announced so the only way she got in there is if she did ED which means she should have withdrawn her apps to all those other schools. I know this because my daughter did ED with Tufts and is going there. Otherwise, it seems a bit odd.
Sounds similar to my S’s situation. He applied for CS, which was the only rationale I can think of. Does UMass take major strongly into account?
I’m sorry. Yes, CS is a “selective major” and harder to get into. UMass describes admissions for CS, Business, Engineering and Nursing as “highly selective.”

Thank you! I feel somewhat better that there’s a rationale at least. Seems so random otherwise.
You’re right. My bad, Tufts releases decision on 3/30. That’s the last school we’re waiting to hear from. She 10-1 and 1 still to hear from. Of curse UMass is easiest on the wallet.
Some of the UMASS programs are somewhat difficult like computer science, business and nursing I believe. It’s been such an odd year, and nothing seems to make much sense. Your daughter has many great choices but I understand how it would be nice to have a choice that is easier on the wallet. I have triplets.
I was accepted into compsci EA with a 4.5 w and 30 act OOS
I would like to do a self-tour next week, does anyone know if they would let me on campus?
I’ve heard of several people doing self tours recently. There is a centrally located parking garage near the campus center that would make a good starting point. Go up to a high floor in the library if you can the views are awesome!
Same. Got a letter saying Honors mistake was made and to look for updated admission letter.
I just visited with my family on Wednesday. We were not allowed into many of the buildings, but it was a great experience to get to know the campus.
Hi! Does anyone know how good the CS program is at UMass? I also got into UBC in Canada which is higher ranked. Which one should I choose? My only hesitation with UBC is I might not get as many opportunities after graduation in cs…
The graduate program is excellent, and the undergraduate program, from what I can gather, is also quite strong in that it prepares students well for a job or for continuing education. CS at UMass Amherst seemed exceptionally competitive this year. I’m not familiar with UBC at all, but most anyone should be proud to accept a CS spot at UMass.
thank youuu
Is UMass better or Rutgers for engineering? Specifically biomedical engineering.
going to commit here pretty soon
yes UMASS accepts by major (school), CS is one of the hardest to get into at UMASS
