Hi, I wanted specifically pre med students from umass to answer this question. From your experience, was umass a good choice for pre med (good classes, professors, etc.)? and if you graduated, did umass give you a better chance of getting into med school?

UMass is not very well known for placing students into the top med schools in the US. For MA schools, you should be looking at Tufts, MIT, Harvard, Northeastern, BU, etc.

dabin…

What are your stats?

U Mass may not add any bonus points to a medical school application but it won’t hold you back either. If you have what it takes and produce, putting together a solid GPA, ECs and MCAT scores, you’ll do just fine.

Plus, UMass has its own med school.

Holy Cross and Tufts have great pre-med programs.

If you look at par72’s posting history, he ALWAYS recommends Holy Cross to everyone, even if the OP is not asking for recommendations. His mindless HC boosting only serves top make HC look desperate.

UMass has decent program, not sure how much that helps at UMass Medical School. In Massachusetts private schools like Harvard, Tufts, Holy Cross and Wellesley have some of the best placement records into med schools.

Thanks guys! really appreciate your input. I’m actually deciding between Boston College, Notre Dame, and Rochester right now.

Informative- is BU REALLY a good school for pre med? Do you know the acceptance rate to med school? I also got accepted there but am not really considering it…should I?

Thanks!

You need to post your question in the pre-med forum. There are people there who really know the pre-med process/colleges/etc.
