I'm hoping to transfer as a sophomore to either UMass Amherst or UMass Dartmouth with a pre-med focus. How does dartmouth's medical lab science program compare with a science program at amherst (probably chemistry) as far as admissions and being prepared for med school goes? Thanks.

Definitely go to UMass-Amherst

Choose UMASS Amherst

UMass Amherst is our flagship state U and improving quickly … and the stats of the incoming students are significantly better than the students headed to UMass Dartmouth.

I understand that UMass plans to create new campuses called UMass-Harvard, UMass-Princeton and UMass-Swarthmore. :)

^ I LOL’d. But yeah, I agree with the others - UMASS Amherst is the better choice.

UMASS Dartmouth’s sciences seem to be O.K. Specially, the marine biology department is good and has a federal “Sea Grant College” designation, if I am not mistaken. I will say that the look of the campus is quite stark and a bit ugly, as in ‘severe concrete.’

Like everyone else says, go with UMass Amherst. There’s really no comparison. You’re paying the same exact amount for either school! Well, unless you get a scholarship. But even then, the scholarships the state schools offer are very small and only to a tiny percentage. UMass Amherst is just out of the top 100 on US news.
