Part 1 deadline is Nov. 1, Part 2 is Dec. 1. I believe they release decisions in the late Feb, early March timeframe.

I was wondering do you think i have a chance at going to Maryland-college Park. I have a G.P.A of 3.50 currently, should go up. I have taken honor classes throughout high school since 10th grade and on. I have over 6 math credits, maryland only requires four plus they would like you to take more than 4 math credits. I am currently taking A.P. Calculus, A.P. Biology, A.P. English/lit and because of the space problem in my schedule, i have to take A.P. Psychology on the side but i will be taking the test. I have pretty low sat scores, 1300 out of 2400 and i am taking it again. I am in the top 10% of my class. The extraciricular's that i participate in are the science fair club in which hopefully we can win locally. I am in the National Honor Society and we do at least 5 hours of community service each month, so i it should to my 150 hours already. I also have volunteered at the school and public library, recieved community service hours for those. I have participated in the chemathon, a chemistry competition at University of Maryland in which me and 6 others represented our high school in which it was the school's first time participating. I am the Vice President of the Interact/Rotary club, and will also recieve community service hours. I should have more than 400-500 hours of community sercice by the end of my senior year. I am volunteering at the Washington Hospital Center in the department of Radiology and that will also give me hundreds of hours. I also attended the student leadership training for students who are in office in any of the clubs. It will give every leader some sort of training to help them be a better leader. I am anticipating that i will have a great essay, i am working on it with my A.P lit/english teacher. I am applying early admission, which i heard will be better for me to get in the fall admission. I am a African American, coming from a family with average income that's not really high. Please give me your honest opinion on if i have a good chance of getting in.

general rule-of-thumb: the larger the school, the more they stick to a numbers cut-off, and later look at the individual. i think your low SATs are going to hurt you, since the applicant pool at UMCP is large, as people see the low costs. you've done so well in the classroom, it's hard to imagine the low SATs. otherwise, you've done everything right! your minority status will also help. and early admission will, too! ( does UMCP have both early decision AND priority?) i know that just about ALL their serious admissions come in priority. those doing regular have little chance. but if they also have early decision(legally- binding) the chances go up even more. GOOD LUCK!

UMCP does not have early decision. Their priority deadline is Part I by Nov. 1 and Part II by Dec. 1. It's like early action, but they don't call it that.

Philip, I think your SAT scores are not high enough for this school. Are you planning to take them again very soon? Your ECs sound wonderful!

Yes i am planning to take it agian very soon, before the the December 1 deadline. But do you think i won't get in because of my SAT's scores, i know it will be a negative when they review me but will it hurt that bad in which i won't be able to attend the school if my sat score didn't improve significantly.

well, by all that this kid has done, could I even get in?!?
