It’s Friday according to someone who works there.
Can someone please chance me?
White Female (OOS)
SAT: 1340
GPAw: 3.92
Major: Chemical engineering
Class rank: Top 12%
Pretty solid essay and recommendations.
EC’s:
NHS, DAR Good Citizen Award, Governor of Model Congress debate club, captain of tennis team junior and senior year, volleyball team, paid work, LOTS of community service
Thanks. I’m really nervous, UMD is my top choice.
Is a 1340 SAT too low for Smith School of Business if my GPA is above avg and EC are really good?
@vball435 Nobody can say for sure, but you are a little low for a direct admit into Engineering (but as you know, SAT scores and grades aren’t everything) Being a female in Engineering may help. However, you look to be in decent shape for admission to UMD.
@gopackgo101 I would say probably a little low for a direct admit. But not impossible! My son has a similar SAT and 4.3 GPA and applied for a direct admit to Smith. I doubt he will get in as he doesnt have a hook. URM’s probably make up the admits under the 1440 average. If you fall into that category, that will certainly make you more competitive. You can always apply as a transfer if you dont get in.
How hard is it to get into the college of computer, mathematical, and natural sciences compared to all the other schools
@PranayPatel I don’t believe any of those are considered a limited enrollment program (LEP) so if you get into UMD, you will be directly admitted to your major. UMD does not consider your major when deciding if they should accept you.
Any chance they will come out Thursday ?
is a 30 act too low for direct admit to smith?
I’m pretty sure it will come out on Friday around 4:45 ish EST. UMD has been pretty consistent releasing decisions on the last Friday of January, so I’m sure it will stay unchanged this year. Because of the switch to the coalition portal, it is doubtful they would release any earlier. As for all of the “chance me” posts, I know you are all very stressed and worried (I know I am!), but don’t worry about what anyone else says about your chances. The only people whose opinions actually matter are the board of admissions, and you will know what they think within the next two days!! I know it’s easier said than done, but everyone try and enjoy the rest of your senior year while you can, and try not to worry too much about these decisions. We have all gone through the application process, so the only thing left to do is wait! Good luck to everyone!!
Is there a way to change your major to a different college right now? I applied undecided in the General College but would like to switch to the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences
I have a 1380 SAT and a 4.64 wGPA but I’ve sort of lost hope of getting into Smith school because of my low SAT.
@momofboys2 im in state and two siblings have graduated from college park. I’m hoping this helps me out, along with what i believe are good recommendations and essay
@gjb123 - I don’t know of any way for you to declare a major right now. I’m pretty certain that all decisions have been made. If you are admitted, call admissions after a few days, and request your desired major. They will probably tell you to send an email. If you are seeking a change to a LEP, there is a good chance that there will not be an openings left, but you’ll be able to do an internal transfer. My D did this.
@blue2000 If you’re in state you should have no problem. UMD preaches “Holistic” so no one part of your application is going to eliminate you. All of these “chances” are only based on “averages”. You look like a great candidate and even if you get in Freshman Connection and not fall, Who cares! Very little difference. I know many people who have gone to UMD and nobody has regretted FC and all love UMD! We should know Friday. Good Luck!!
@Mason135 You’re SAT is NOT low. It is just on the lower end for Smith, but not that far off. (1440 average) Your GPA is very high so that can really help you.You should not give up hope at all!!
Does anyone think they’ll release them on this wonderful Wednesday?
Here’s a question for the group… My D submitted application prior to Nov 1 but was missing the Counselor recommendation and we did not know until I followed up with the admissions counselor in state. They have everything now since 1/1 and the admissions counselor assured me she will be in the EA decision but I’m not so sure? She may have just been saying that.
@TaraGmez If the admissions counselor said she’d be considered for EA she will. They don’t just say stuff to say it
I’d hope not! We have it in an email from counselor! lol, today she said she would still be considered but We all know those EA decisions are made by now which worries me.
