UMD College Park class of 2022 EA discussion

@taragmez, no decisions for EA have come out yet.

@TaraGmez colleges don’t like to disadvantage students because documents submitted by the high school are late… You will be fine.

Great thanks for the input!

and yes I know no decisions out yet but didn’t want to be anxious for nothing when in reality it wont be til March!

All – As a parent of a OOS UMD applicant, I love the enthusiasm and passion for UMD in this thread and hope all the young women and men posting here get admitted. And given the understandable anxiety, I hope UMD releases the decisions as soon as they can.

I admit I don’t know if decisions will be released today to surprise everyone, Thursday because UMD’s IT department wants to have Friday available in case something goes wrong, or Friday because UMD admissions wants a 48 cooling off period before it has to answer phone calls from disappointed applicants. If on Friday, I don’t know if it will be at 5pm EST, or instead many hours before that because UMD admissions staff have a happy hour planned at Appleby’s for 5pm this Friday. I also don’t know if Maryland admissions staff is a leaky bucket that gives hints out to whoever calls or knows an admission staffer, or instead has the discipline of the Unsullied in GoT and would never give the slightest inkling of when decisions will be released even at the point of a spear.

I do know that everyone who has posted their info here should be proud of what they have accomplished in HS, and I hope you all end up at a school that makes you happy.

In the meantime, it is nice to Fear the (Admissions) Turtle along with you all. Hang in there.

I feel like it’ll be Friday but any chance they come out today?

@momofboys2 I’m hoping so! Thanks so much

Key I see in most of these wow stats applicants, impressive but where are the community hours, sports, and even important do you work or ever had a job? Schools look at students and whether they just study or do they go out and make a difference as well…not just for themselves.

I’ve seen some EA applicants with amazing stats and instate for JMU get deferred and other applicants with SAT optional even get in due to their all around character…I guess? No one will understand admissions, quotas even?

My DD is so nervous and so am I! She loves UMD and has attended the WIE Conference and all-girl Hackathon there.

I believe she is a well-rounded applicant. She has participated in two Unified Sports Teams (working with Special Ed students). Had a summer job. On the Robotics Team. NHS, many volunteer hours. Several other clubs. Captain of Varsity Sport, played varsity all four years.

Does anyone have an idea whether Wisconsin-Madison business is more competitive than Smith at UMD?

@gopackgo101 Interesting question! I think it might be too early to know for sure as Wisconsin-Madison is only in it’s second year of doing (>10% direct admits) from high school. I read this year Madison is doing more direct admits than even last year and it may be closer to 90% now and I’m guessing last year was around 50-60%.

@gopackgo101 - It’s definitely more competitive and it’s also a much better business school.
