accepted into Honors College, chemistry!
ACT 33, Unweighted GPA 3.96, Weighted GPA 4.65
Hi! Does anyone know what the scholars program is?
Received email saying decision letter but nothing in Coalition??
also, does anyone know what the Facebook group is for admitted students?
For everyone asking (and @heyheyy123) what the Scholars Program is:
The College Park Scholars Program is a 2-year program aimed at different objectives. It offers various programs which you can read about under programs in https://www.scholars.umd.edu/programs
In the Scholars program, people belonging to different majors (unrelated majors too) come together. For example, you can be a Computer Science major, and choose to attend the Life Science program. There are separate residence halls for every program, and it also gives you added benefits. It is a close-knit community with large-university resources. This way, you would also be with similar minds and the best minds in the University.
It is in your interest to choose the program. You should, however, submit this form by 16th February, and is present under the Checklist on mycoalition.org
I can’t figure out the carillon thing also. Do you have to participate?
The “highly negative reputation given across the internet” was in reference to the Easton dorms. The required gen ed classes in Carillion Communities completely unrelated to the cs major seems restricting. I may be misinformed and would like clarification onto what this program may entail. I would also want to know if it is possible to switch programs or even drop it if decided to.

I’m so excited and grateful!! UMD was a reach school for me.
Daughter accepted Scholars major Kinesiology. Instate. Unweighted GPA 3.96, many AP-GT but not all. ACT 31. Very excited as Scholars was what she preferred for several reasons. Admitted to Penn State and instate tuition to South Carolina and waiting on Northeastern, Boston U and Duke - rejected from North Carolina - but almost sure she will be a Terp!
Okay…question about acceptance letter!
We’ve lived and owned a home in Maryland for 18 years and we have no other homes anywhere else.
Bottom of kiddo’s letter says:
Maryland resident (tuition purposes): N
Does the N mean ‘no’? Can any of you other MD residents look at your letter and tell me what your code on that line is? It’s right underneath major and advising college.
Unless N is the code for residents, i’m confused…can anyone out there tell me what their code is, and whether you are in state or OOS? Thanks!
@STF4717, I am OOS and I have “N” as Maryland Resident which I assumed meant “No”. Log into the Coalition and click on View Submission. Scroll Down to Application Questions and expand the section. Scroll down to Maryland Resident and see how you answered. If “yes” I would contact the school.
InState
D got admitted into Honors Program
SAT 1540, strong service portfolio and artistic involvement, her weighted GPA is 4.65, and AP also commended scholar for the National Merit Scholarship.
Congrats to everyone that got in, and good luck with merit and finald which are coming later
@atf4717 when we did coalition app, when we clicked yes for instate, it asked for proof. DS provided driver’s license number and answered a series of questions to verify instate. Our letter says Y
Accepted into Honors Program last night, 34 ACT, 98 GPA, and a lot of service and leadership EC’s. Does anyone know what % or how many kids they accepted into the honors program?
Accepted to FC. OOS. 4.68, 27 ACT. Not interested in FC. Admit it or not, there’s a stigma attached to FC students. Not interested. FC is great for UMD to keep enrollment up and the money coming in, but my son will move onto to another school choice.
@flyboy1968 I’m really pissed too! I would not fit into freshman connection. This year I have a 4.0 UW and 4.93 weighted, 1570 SAT, and I’m in state. I have no idea why they think I need to practice time management and stuff.
Does anyone know if you can study abroad if you are in the Merrill College of Journalism?
Could someone help explain the FIRE program?
