Per the link I posted above, they can bring 2 guests to the in-person event.
Thanks for your posts on this. My kiddo did not get a decision either. UMD portal now says they do not have the SAT score. College Board says they do. Since UMD is test optional, Iām not sure it should make a difference.
No response to emails. I will be calling on Monday. At this point, Iād just like to get my application fee back.
My son got a similar e-mail. Iām not seeing anything in the e-mail or links indicating that each experience will be the āonlyā UMD admitted student opportunityā¦isnāt it possible that they are planning both? Iām not sure I see where this is contradictory. I can see where a national university would host an Open House with basics virtually and then hold on-campus visits for those that are most interested.
Contradictory in the fact that on one link it only lists virtual. And a different link shows they will be hosting in-person events. Both links are above. We are holding out for UMD to schedule the in-person events prior to visiting. Hoping they get the dates added to the calendar soon so we can plan. We already had one in-person admitted students event on Monday at Penn State. We have Ohio State next Saturday & Purdue on Presidentās Day.
Hmmā¦itās definitely possible that Iām misreading or missed something. As I mentioned in my post, I read both links and the e-mail. Hereās what Iām seeing, if anyone is seeing something different, let me know:
-
Admitted Student Open House dates offered virtually in March and April
Admitted Student Open House | UMD Undergraduate Admissions -
Admitted Student Visit Days with dates TBD in March
Daily Visits | UMD Undergraduate Admissions.
I donāt see anywhere that these are either the same event (which they donāt appear to be) or that they are stand in contrast to one another - if Iām missing something that says only one is occurring or that they are the same, then I absolutely stand corrected.
Either way, hereās hoping we all get to visit with our wonderful students in-person! Glad to hear other visits are happening, my son has also been on in-person visits and what a difference it makes to be physically on campus. Good luck to all throughout the rest of the decision-making process!
I agree with you these are not the same events. They havenāt added the in-person events to the calendar yet, hopefully soon!
The way I read it is that the Admitted Students Visit day will pretty much just be a tour and a general information session, where the Virtual Admitted Students Open House is going to be more tailored to the studentās major, by having a session in that department. I am pretty bummed by it, because when we went 4 years ago for my daughter, I really enjoyed it as a parent, not knowing much about UMD, and now that it is my sonās turn, he really doesnāt care to miss school for a virtual event, that doesnāt even seem as in depth as the in-person event 4 years ago.
I also did not like that the virtual event was a school day. Sheās registered, but waiting for in person options IF financial aid is in our ballpark, but im not expecting it to be, tbh.
Financial aid at UMD is usually reserved for Pell Grant recipients, I believe. Income has to be really low.
Yes, Iāve heard itās sparse.
UMD, and many other colleges, considers Federal Student Loans to be a form of financial aid. My D was offered these loans every year, even though our EFC was well above the COA at UMD
Federal student loans ARE a form of financial aid.
Yes, it is. I phrased things the way that I did because Iāve seen many parents, in the past, post complaints about a loan not being what they consider real financial aid.
Okay, I get it. Iām doubting that @Winky1 is waiting to see if UMD will offer her student the gift of loans, though.
Correct. Needing to see if D22 receives merit. The Stafford Loan is a given for any school.
Same situation with us, we however got spring admit .
Hopefully next yr applicants read these msgs and be careful with college credit info on application.
None of the other colleges required us to submit summer courses transcripts
My son was admitted to CS, but not offered honors college with 3.9/4.6/1580. He is really interested in the honors college, especially the ACES, can he appeal? Does he need to appeal to his AO or UMD honors college? thanks!
Did they offer him Scholars, etc? With #s like those, he was offered something. They have several levels.
Iād start with Honors - but I donāt think youāll be able to get a change.
You cam appeal it and you can also apply for at the end of your Fresjman year.
But, ACES has a limited capacity due to the nature of that program and they only accept about 80 students a year and not all pf them are CS majors
no, they didnāt offer him Scholars, they gave him Carillon LLC.
