The CS Department (like all the other LEP Departments) has the final responsibility for setting Internal Transfer requirements. Not all Departments have the same requirements.
I don’t know why it is this way and anything I could say would just be speculation on my part.
Hi - There has been some discussion about this on another thread (UMD Banneker Key) and it seems that the Banneker/Key, President’s and Dean’s merit scholarships have all been given out. B/K went out in early February. Notifications for Presidents and Deans scholarships were sent via email on Friday night 2/18. There was a mention of possible merit money still for students in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. There is a link to that info on the other thread. Hope that helps.
I have seen in past years where a few students get notified of President’s and Dean’s scholarships well after the initial release. However this seems to be very unusual. Also the engineering school releases invites for a number of Clark Scholars scholarships after the initial release. I am not sure if these invites have already gone out.
Took a great guided tour today. Well organized, informative, and very thorough for 90 minutes. Got to go into several academic buildings and inside to see a dorm room + ate lunch at the eatery inside the Stamp student union. Funny how so much feels like its changed since I was a Terp (so many new buildings and so much construction with the Metro coming to campus) … and how very much feels familiar (my Cambridge Community dorm looks exactly the same, and seeing Testudo in front of McKeldin made me nostalgic!). DD absolutely loved it and UMD has moved to the top of her list.
Honestly, I’ve heard that a lot of students drop out of Gemstone, as it’s the only 4 year honors community. Sometimes, students just want to have time for something else! There are many opportunities to do research at Maryland and this way, your student will have more flexibility about the type of research he wants to do and for how long.
I just read that IBH is going to be housed in Prince Frederick Hall. He will be surrounded by very bright students. Best wishes as he makes his final decisions about where to attend!
Is it not insane because I recall your child interviewed for Bannaker key scholarship? Would it not be obvious to get first choice for the scholarship finalist!
We attended the Virtual Admitted Student Day program today - (I think there are more this month, on Fridays). It was excellent. One of the sessions allowed you to “visit with” and hear from the Dean, Faculty and students in your students intended major. We attended the BSOS (Behavioral Science) discussion. It lasted for an hour and had great information and advice. There was a Q&A at the end with the panelists. I highly recommend signing up for one of these Virtual sessions as I understand that the in-person Admitted Student Day tours are mainly campus tours. Hope this helps.
Thanks for that advice! I will have my son register for a virtual session. We have an in-person visit scheduled next Monday & will be staying at the hotel. I’m hoping he loves it!!
We did an in-person visit yesterday and my daughter loved it so much she was really excited to do the virtual session today to build on what she saw/learned yesterday! We have visited so many great schools over the past several months but UMD was by far her favorite - best tour guide we’ve had at any school … and there is so much to see and do, such a great student body, amazing academic opportunities plus Big 10 sports! Hope your son loves it! It is just the best feeling to see your child so happy on a campus - after all the hard work and the rollercoaster of college application season.
Agreed!! We are a Big 10 family (I went to Purdue & my DH Penn State) but I really hope he picks UMD! He applied & was accepted to 6 Big Ten schools. Right now I think it’s between UMD & Penn State. We live in NJ. Hoping the in-person visit will push him over the edge!
