Does anyone know the chances of getting into the honors college at UMD? Can someone give me more information about the honors college? My scores are pretty average but I do a ton of extracurricular activites, will this make me considered for the honors college? I just want to compare my chances with somewhat of an average set of scores for those that got in.
And also, would it be too late to retake the SAT, send my score, and still be considered for the honors college?
Well you can go to the UMCP Forums and take a look at last years acceptances thread. That being said getting into the Honors College is very competitive. Typically you will need scores in the 1400+/32 plus range, plus an unweighted in the 3.7+ range to have a decent shot. While the EC’s might be helpful when comparing competitive candidates, they are going to weigh heavy on grades, scores and the rigor of the curriculum taken.
i think its more competitive with that when it comes to GPA. UMD weights GPA much higher than standardized tests. Even taking a highly rigorous schedule, combined with a 34 or 35 ACT, with a 3.7 you still might not get in (including good essays). Mainly people with high GPA (3.85-4.0) get into honors college. If you do have a 4.0, a slightly lower sat/act won’t hurt you too much.
