I am really confused on which BA/MDs allow out-of-staters and where to apply. Apparently there are a lot of College that participate in a joint program that guarantees a spot in UMDNJ. Anyone have a list and can clarify this very confusing issue? Thanks!

You can apply to this 7 year combined BA/MD program with UMDNJ via either of the institutions below

The College of NJ (it's in Ewing township very close to Princeton)

Rutgers at Piscataway
*Rutgers at Newark (same place where UMDNJ is located)

Stevens Institute of Technology (preferred by students who want to pursue Biomedical Engineering for Bachelors)

Ramapo College.

Boston University

You can complete first 3 years at BU and then next 4 at UMDNJ.

In total they have about 20-22 spots. They tend to accept nearly 40 kids though since most have multiple acceptances. In 2007 Fall, amongst the kids who begin their 7 year BA/MD, there are several who turned down Ivys to accept direct medical acceptance.

There were more students accepted from TCNJ than any other institution.

Excellent, that was exactly what I was looking for. So correct me if I am wrong, you can apply to all of these programs, each program accepts about 20 kids? Therefore you can increase your chances on getting accepted by applying to all of these programs which guarentee a spot in UMDNJ?

You can apply from each of these institutions. But the total #of acceptance letters that went out were 43 this year.

Of these, only 22 actually accepted to go to TCNJ. I do recall that there were 7 at Rutgers/Newark.

Check with Pipinghottofu and MDstudent. They might be able to break down the numbers better than me since they are in S's class this Fall 07.

Rutgers BA/MD program

i know rutgers newark accepted 17 ppl this year

Very cool, I think i will apply via TCNJ and Rutgers. Thanks guys!

every year there is always the UMDNJ confusion, i love it

Sorry Matrix. I understand your negative feelings toward NJMS. I realize you didn't get accepted by them.

So, you must admit that on NJMS thread, your comments are a bit tainted!

Would it be better to be a pre-Med major or do the dual-degree program at Drew U with UMDNJ? Because I was thinking about applying, but I don’t have the SAT score.

I am a HS senior and will soon start to apply to colleges. I am like 70% sure i wanna do medicine, and i am thinking of applying to 7-year medical programs. But before I do, i just wanted to know if after doing my 3 years of undergrad, would i be able to use my undergrad degree and apply to an engineering grad school (engineering was just an example, but i meant any other grad school as well).
Thanks in advance for helping me out =D

You will need to do 1 more year of undergrad and then apply to grad school.

okay that makes sense. thanks a lot
