Let’s get answers to housing questions after freshman year so we can put that issue to rest.
Is this event just for Fall 22 admitted families? If so, please keep us posted on what they say regarding housing. Thank you!
It did not specify fall or spring. Just says admitted students.
We didn’t get an invite to tonight’s event. Would love to learn how rising Sophomore housing will be prioritized next Spring. Thank you!
Honestly I was really disappointed with their response. It was vague and not directly answered. And I asked twice and many others asked also.
They said all students who apply for housing during the time period they are supposed to apply should get housing. This was related to my question about getting housing as a sophomore.
Is that what others heard too???
It was very obvious that they didn’t want to address the sophomore housing situation. Questions were asked about it in many different ways and they didn’t give any concrete answers. Most questions on the topic were ignored entirely. I assume that is because there is no plan to take any action (contract with local apartment complex, etc). Reading between the lines, it was an attitude of “This is our housing situation - take it or leave it” I guess they know that if some people aren’t comfortable with the situation, there will be others who will gladly pay 75K and roll the dice. At least we know and can make a decision accordingly…I think it was worse for their current freshman who had no clue they’d have so much trouble getting on campus housing for sophomore year.
RSM and snapperny,
Did they address who would most likely lose out on housing with Hecht coming off line?
That should be a pretty straight forward answer to a very fair question. Thank you!
Not specifically. Instead they said all students have the opportunity to participate in the housing selection process. By “participate” I guess they mean that all students can register & get an assigned time to choose housing (which very likely might have already sold out by the time that time slot comes up). It seems logical that it will be the sophomores who lose out on housing space with the demo of Hecht- as freshman are guaranteed housing and will now spill over into Mahoney, Pearson.
I think we have enough information to make our decision. For some, it may depend on how important the “college experience” is and living on campus…
Question for deferred applicants: Can you change your major in your portal? I know this was a big deal in January and I want to see if the same still applies now.
My daughter was deferred (Nursing), and UM was a reach for her with her stats, so we aren’t really expecting her to be accepted. As of now, it looks like we have the option to change her major. Time will tell!
Are all deferred students hearing at regular decision day?
That has been my assumption, but I don’t know for sure. Has a decision date for RD been announced?
We know nothing! She got deferred back with EA, submitted her mid-year report, and showed continued interested. We have not heard from the school since except a response she got back for her admissions advisor.
I wish you the best with it. Miami has lost a lot of our interest given the housing situation, but it’s not completely out of the question still if he gets in. What a strange admissions cycle!
Yes, with their lack of communication, and the housing situation ……it moved way down her list. Even if she got in, I doubt she would get a merit award anyway. No way we could afford the price tag without.
Yeah, I can. But idk if it means something.
Did you bring up the topic?
When are they releasing decisions for regular admission and deferred?
No guarantees that it will be the same this year, but my understanding is that it has previously been either the last Friday or Saturday of March. I haven’t seen anything official though, and this seems to be an odd year so far in terms of how some schools are doing things.
