I was thinking the same thing. My student was waitlisted too after being deferred from EA. 1560 SAT, 36 ACT, National Merit Finalist, 17 APs (all exams passed, with several 4s and 5s) and an assortment of honors classes (maybe 4-5 year-long honors). 2-sport varsity and robotics, plus work and volunteer experience.
It’s not too distressing to us given the housing situation at UMiami and the university’s apparent lack of transparency about how they will handle it, but still a bit surprising to see the results come out so far. I know CC is a small community and may well not reflect the big picture, but looks like a whole lot more waitlist than acceptances so far.
Waitlist. 1530 SAT, 4.3, a lot of ECs
Daughter was waitlisted after an EA deferral, direct-admit nursing, gpa 3.81 UW, no test scores, 1 AP class, all classes senior yr dual-enrolled at a community college, decent (but not stellar) ECs. She was rejected from U of Tampa after a deferral, and since Miami seems much more competitive, we were assuming that’d be the outcome here too. Pleasant surprise, not sure if she’ll join the list, since she’s gotten pretty excited about Loyola New Orleans, which accepted her outright with generous merit, and is accepting all her comm college credits leading to possible early graduation… but of course feels better than a rejection!
Does anyone know what the acceptance rate was this year?
likely around 20% give or take given the 49k apps to fill 2100 spots.
Our son (San Diego, CA area) was waitlisted, after applying EA, then offered ED2, then again offered ED2 or Regular, chose to be in the regular decision pool. Showed plenty of demonstrated interest, and did the formal tour on campus last June. Interesting application cycle.
My daughter got admitted after being deferred during EDI but for Spring 2023 ! 3.76 and 1240 SAT.
I can honestly say that this admission cycle is truly crazy. Acceptances where not expected and waitlists/alternate pathways at what we expected to be “safeties.” We’re from Texas and applied to UMiami on 12/13 RD fully expecting a rejection. 3.45 GPA and test optional. Really, really good ECs, 2 paying jobs (one at top Dallas law firm and also a paid/contracted fashion model with top Dallas firm). Really good essays, but truly did not expect much success with Florida schools (UF, FSU, UM). Got a spring 2023 acceptance today. Very excited and blessed. I hope everyone realizes how random this whole process is. Some great stats posted here that got waitlisted. Some “meh” stats from others that got in. Obviously each candidate has something that sometimes catches the attention of certain decision makers but not others. For us, we know that we fall in the latter category of “meh” numbers, relatively speaking. We’re ecstatic about spring admission.
Good luck to all.
Do we think it’s fair to say that if you get waitlisted – in the event you are accepted – that you will almost certainly NOT get any merit scholarship money?
Curious about that also.
What in the world???How does your kid not get accepted?? I’m sure your student has some good options already but this is shocking to me!
Waitlisted
1510
4.1
DD waitlisted for school of B.
One of her top 5 of the 20 applied to so she will accept a spot on the waitlist.
Curious to know her stats, my DD was waitlisted too for Business but got in OOS to UF for business.
What school or major?
BS in Psychology
Admitted RD but no word on health professions mentoring program or scholarship. Does anyone know when those come out?
Any merit or need should be in the portal at the time of acceptance unless they have emailed or posted they are missing something from your CSS for need based.
deferred from ED1 then now waitlisted. GPA 88 test-optional but tons of jobs, internships, and school involvement! accepted the waitlist position! hope i get in its still my #1 choice!
These should all be in your portal if you look. Our daughter had links to alert her of status of scholarship as well as the special programs. As far as I know those were already determined and everyone learns their status with acceptance. Should be on your portal. We had like 4 links to open to read through them all.
