UMiami Admissions Fall 2022

deffered then wailtisted, 1420 SAT engineering applicant. oh well, not taking my spot on the waitlist.

Was need-based financial aid on the portal, or was it just the merit-based award? Our admission letter (for spring 2023) stated that financial aid packages would be sent in April. There are no links on our portal (except, of course, the link to the separate financial aid page).

Check out the FAQs for Spring Starters. There should be a link to it right on your acceptance letter. There was one for ours. In short, I read the question about “scholarships” to mean merit in which case none will be available for Spring start. The “financial aid” referenced in the letter itself refers to need based.

I am shocked by the number of waitlisted students who have super impressive/high stats. My head is spinning from this year’s admissions cycle. Such a wacky process.

My own daughter was waitlisted. It was a reach for her with 3.8 and TO. So we’re not surprised.

There doesn’t seem to be a logical reason why some applicants are deferred or waitlisted while others are getting in. I do remember the admissions director mentioning they look for regional diversity so someone from Wyoming would have a better chance then a student from New Jersey but that can’t be the only factor. It’s been crazy since the schools went test optional.

waitlisted

I suspect that Colorado probably gets fewer regional diversity points than Wyoming, but my Colorado-based student was deferred EA and waitlisted in RD.

My CO student is waitlisted. We thought it was a safe/target school. Guess not

Your child’s stats are incredible. I thought my kid had strong ones. Weird cycle for sure!

Weirder than I would have predicted heading in to it, for sure. I am really surprised to see the wide array of high-stat kids who were waitlisted here.
Best wishes to your student - here’s hoping everyone aligns with a great fit no matter how weird this admissions cycle is!

Seeing how many people got waitlisted I just want to ask that those who do not plan on attending UMiami, PLEASE PLEASE notify UM that you won’t be attending. Some of us really want to get off of the waitlist and we would appreciate it so so much. Thank you!!!

I think you just don’t accept the waitlist.

That makes more sense! Lol

What is the housing crisis everyone is talking about? Aren’t freshmen guaranteed housing? If you can’t get a dorm as a sophomore, wouldn’t you just go off campus and do an apartment?

This year Spring admits did not all get housing on-campus.

As far as off-campus housing, the rents in the area have skyrocketed and many places that are more affordable are a metro ride away and so students essentially become commuters.

She’s actually thinking of transferring because between housing issues and a complete lack of advising. As she said, her freshman year isn’t what she hoped it would be and she’s skeptical the U is where she wants to be as she doesn’t see any change in their policies.

Same happened to my D last year. Deferred, then waitlisted. Never heard from UMiami again. Fortunately, she was accepted to Northeastern EA (so waitlist was not huge disappointment), and on Ivy day - to Cornell. Good luck!

Wow!! Amazing ! Mine did apply to Cornell, BUT it’s very very unlikely. They did reach out for an interview, but I know they don’t really mean anything. And it was not one of her better ones. So does your D go to Cornell? Mine just drove through there after seeing Syracuse. Said it was gorgeous.

It was a tough decision, since we are from NYC and D loves urban life. She really wanted to be in Boston. But after many debates, she decide to commit to Cornell.
