UMiami or Case Western for premed

My son is torn between which of these two schools he should go to. He plans on going to medical school so am he's debating which of these schools would put him on a better path to get in to a great med school 4 yrs from now. Here are the reasons why i am struggling to help decide which school he should go to:

Case Western: great school for medicine primarily biology, but much harder school than UMiami and getting good grades is hard. The social life is lacking a lot. He would be able to participate in a d3 sports program here, but would being able to do a sport he loves at the varsity level compensate for a lower gpa then he would get at UMiami and a much worse social life that he would recieve here.

UMiami: also a great school for biological studies but not quite on the same level as Case Western. Easier to get good grades here and the social life is AMAZING, but would the party lifestyle be a hindrance to my gpa. He also wouldn't be able to participate in varsity sports here even though he could do club, but would a varisty sport add more to a medical school application then just doing internships and research?

So basically, at UMiami he would have more fun, but do you think that the social life there is too big and he would end up partying too much which would lower his grades and make his gpa even to one that he would recieve at the reasonably harder case western? Also, for a medical school application, is doing a d3 sport and internships and research much more impressive than just doing club and internships and research?

Additional information: Weather isn't a big deal and he has received the same amount of finacial aid from both.
Thank you guys, and i appreciate all responses that can help my son out!

The main factors for getting admitted to medical school are GPA and MCAT score. I would gave your son check to see how each school does with getting students into medical school- the premed advising office may have a grid that shows acceptance rates for different ranges of GPA and MCAT scores. in the end, I don’t think he could go wrong with either place. The main issue is going to be where he feels he fits in better. BTW, did he take a gap year? I ask this only because it’s not even the end of September, and he has already been admitted to two schools.

Please see the Premed Topics forum.

And OP based on your other posts you are the student not the parent. You even slip up in your post in this thread. If you can’t be honest most people won’t bother to help.

Your son has gotten acceptances and financial aid for both Case Western AND U of Miami already? How is that? Acceptances even for early candidates have not been sent yet. The Profile for 2014-2015 is not yet available for submission for aid consideration.

Please clarify how your student has these acceptances and awards when the deadline for early applications has not yet passed.

Edit to add…if this student is taking a gap year, perhaps the school will hold merit aid offers, but need based awards for the 2014-2015 school year will need to be recalculated based on 2013 tax return information, and the info provided on the Profile and FAFSA for 2014-2015.
