@srparent15 does everyone review their file? Does your son feel that he got answers?
Interesting
No, pretty sure most people arenât even aware they can read them.
He and some friends found out you can review it and so they made the appointments to do so and that was it. He didnât really have any questions he was looking to have answered, it. So he did that, found it interesting and then pretty much moved on to the next thing.
There is always some next thing there, something going on to participate in if you want or to just chill if you want that too.
For anyone reading this and going through the ups and downs of the admission notifications right now. I have multiple kids all at different schools and there are positives and negatives at all of the schools but all of my kids love their schools. Michigan wasnât my sonâs first choice but he is happy. Wherever your kids end up it will work out and they can be happy there.
read a PDF by a former Senior AO regarding what to do if postponed. for the EOCI she suggests thanking the committee for giving the opportunity to provide an EOCI- hereâs the problem is 250 words, and I heard its not supposed to be a letter. anyone have thougths
Posted up thread many times but donât read into this too much. Itâs an exercise to see if your still interested to continue on. If anything new like awards /recognition then put it down. Donât repeat whatâs already in your application. Why do you want to go and how will you bring about change on campus is one idea. Will you attend if chosen.
Internationa acceptedl!!!

Congrats. What took you so longâŠ
@Search2022
So interesting. Iâm going to tell my S21 about it if he wants to go review it.
Some thoughts between my S21 who was accepted EA to LSA vs my D22 postponed. Both in state, top 10 feeder school. Both had excellent GPA S21 3.75 D22 3.9. BUT my son took more APs in his junior year, more honors courses, which I didnât feel were any more difficult than the regular courses honestly. S21 got a 1510 SAT (780 math) D22 was never a good standardized test taker Got a 27 on the ACT (31 in English) but we didnât submit the score. S21 was more active in school activities (Band section leader, Jazz band, Debate team and Golf school team) outside of school he was on Hockey club teams and captain of one. My daughters passion is riding so she has put all of her time and effort into that, but it is not a school sport. No equestrian team at the school. She also works at her barn, this takes up all of her free time, which we mentioned in her activities and essays and also got a recommendation from her barn owner and employer. I feel like Michigan really does look at standardized tests and AP as a top criteria. Too bad for my D22 but it may turn out for the best if she attends her second choice. I donât have high hopes that she will be admitted now and have prepared her for that. My sons friend who also took all of the same classes and did everything he did except debate and did not submit scores was also deferred last year and ultimately rejected.
This process is just so interesting to me. Not sure I agree with it all but they certainly get the top students. (PS my husband and I attended Ross in the 90s and I donât think there is any way Iâd be admitted today lol)
I read this too. Not only was it a Senior AO, it was a Senior AO at Michigan. My S22 did not say thank you (I read it after he submitted), but he did include the other things that @Knowsstuff (and she) suggested like recent accomplishments, why he wants to go and affirming that he will go if chosen
My son brought up an interesting question. He was postponed EA. Does he only have one more shot? Or could he be postponed again in the Feb wave and eventually be admitted in March? Or April? He thinks you only get one postponement. But to me that doesnât make sense with these multiple waves. Any idea on this? Thank you!
The way I understand it, he wonât get postponed again, but he may hear nothing in the first (or second) wave. Though, it sounds like the last wave is almost all rejections.
or wait lists.
The next time he hears from UM, he either will be accepted, rejected or waitlisted, (the last two decisions he will only receive in April, not before.)
Edit: final decisions could also come at the end of March, since we arenât privy to the exact timing.
We now know of two kids that were flat out rejected, several accepted and most postponed.
Itâs obviously overstated here for effect but -
We all failed to read the fine print for the strongest schools.
âWe are a Test optional school, we do not require tests but if you want to be accepted with the normal percentage chances for kids with strong grades and strong apps, we strongly suggest that you submit strong scores. â
Simplistically, if he gets an email in the next 6 weeks saying he has a decision that is most likely great news.
If he gets an email after that pointâŠ.
I hope he asks! Will be interesting. If my DD22 goes, I will ask her to ask, but sheâs not that compliant with parental requests.
Michigan yield protects like crazy for EA. The valedictorian from DD22âs school was deferred. Simple reason - no valedictorian from any NYC specialized HS has enrolled at Michigan in the last 10 years or maybe ever. So yeah, it does suck for the kids at the tippy top of our type of HS.
For OOS, I feel the AO are looking at the schoolâs record with UM and who actually enrolls. In DD22âs case, great stats but no way, shape or form, an HYPSM-C candidate.
Itâs accepted, denied or wait list. So wait list is the last shot. Good Luck.
Lots of Vals for some reason donât get accepted. Not sure why.
