Thank you! Yes, GT is a great school and we are very relieved she has two great options so far. We are in state and live down the road from Tech. She really wants to get out of state. I get it. We are definitely pumping up the positives and keeping hope.
Did she apply LSA or COE?
LSA, psych major.
Yep, totally get it. Itās amazes me when people in Michigan donāt understand they have some of the best college and instate tuitions for that type of school. Same with GT. Kids can go away for internships and life. I had to live at home and work and go to school. They will surviveā¦
There seems to be a lot of interest in Kinesiology at Michigan and for good reason. The SM is #2 on Niche. Looking at enrollment, there are around 250/year in the department, and around 125 for SM. My son, who seems to be very qualified for a number of reasons I wonāt detail, was deferred/postponed for EA.
There is also a lot of chatter about them reserving spots for athletes, and this seems to be true. If you look at the Michigan Academic All Big Ten athletes, there are lots of Kinesiology majors, and all three Michigan hockey players in the Olympics are SM majors.
If you try to project how many spots are actually available for SM, out of 125 probably half are instate, and that gets reduced by athletes, the actual number of spots for OOS likely is in the 30 range.
Is sports medicine synonymous with kinesiology at UM?
This makes sense, and honestly if I had known my daughter was applying to such a competitive major with so few spots I might have tried to steer her in another direction. Sheās being hit hard with deferrals and rejections and is getting really discouraged. Sheās applying to Exercise science, but sounds like maybe thereās even fewer spots there than SM.
I am not an ACT person so donāt know the equivalent SAT. But I would guess she should be in a good place if they believe she wants to come.
Seems like the ACT is a little low but a little low is much much better than no test.
Get excited about GT itās amazing and produces super powerful and confident women grads.
SM is one of the Kinesiology majors.

A look at number of degrees conferred by major at UM.
Fascinating. As an EE, I find it interesting that they have more aeronautical than EE and more ME than anything else.
There is hope. They offered this program last year for waitlisted students, but I have seen no mention of it for this year. Perhaps with increased applications and a new building, their class size is increasing.

Interesting. I hadnāt heard of that. Well, we will keep waiting and see what happens
Wow this is interesting. @sushiritto this has class 21 information even though CDS isnāt out yet. Look at the discrepancy in offers of admission by gender and enrolled by gender last year.

Yes, I know someone who enrolled in this.
It was also offered to waitlisted 2020
congratulations!
No, Jan 28 when EA decisions were released.
I completely understand the wanting to go OOS even though thereās a great university down the road. We live 30 mins from U of Washington and neither of my Ds would be too excited about going there. My D22 didnāt even apply but that was largely due to them not having her major (Kinesiology). Best of luck to your D! My D22 got postponed too.
Thank you and good luck to your D too!
