UMich Ann Arbor Early Action for Fall 2022 Admission

Does your HS supply Naviance data for current seniors ? our school does not report current year stats…only prior graduating class info

First First many families get between $20,000-35,000 in out of state financial aid. Michigan has specific guidelines. Of course no one knows your finances here so call today and speak with financial aid. Yes, even if not accepted because if it’s not a viable option why delay it longer?

Also kids get down for all reasons. My son got wait listed at GT. Getting him to do the Loci was like pulling teeth. The more knowledgeable “me” today would just let it alone. Give him the information and move on. If he’s not into it then it will show in the Loci also.

Kids get in without it BUT if used to gain interest and not doing it then… Don’t be surprised if they aren’t interested either.

Good Luck.

The OOS admit rate is roughly 2-4% below that overall admit rate.

While I certainly agree with you, re: soft rejection, but two things.

One, UCLA is very similar, roughly 10,000 put on a WL with a 2% admit rate. And two, last cycle, during the pandemic, Michigan went “heavily” to their WL, 13%.

Essentially, this is Michigan’s MO, with some year-to-year anomalies. Although I think 2% is more “normal.”

Thanks for sharing; my son’s email had no details on what was missing, or how to submit the missing part. It only told him to look in Wolverine access for a message. Good to know you have options!

I told my kids when applying to colleges… Don’t give them an excuse to reject you.

Do everything you can to put yourself in the right light for that school.

If he’s not willing to do it then that speaks volumes. I will tell you… Michigan wants kids that if their back is up against the wall that they will figure out a way… FYI

But if you’re admitted to Ross, you can double major:

BBA Dual Degrees - Academics at the Michigan Ross School of Business.

Yes, the LSA offer is “on the table” until 5/1. Being accepted to LSA and denied at Ross isn’t that unusual.

I get how your son feels. It’s like they already did two big essays and now they write another one and who knows the odds given all the deferrals and you want to love the school that loves you back.

Sorry, I have to really disagree here. Keep it up beat and positive. End with “Looking forward to a favorable decision and Go Blue!”

Positive but not cocky… Their not going to want to accept someone if already having financial issues. Let financial aid deal with that. They need to know the kids want to AND can commit to the university but you do you.

I think it means that Michigan goes to their WL by school, geography, gender, diversity interest, and other interesting applicant characteristics Michigan is looking for, but the order once those filters have been sorted, is not ranked.

Ours provides both. Clearly as mentioned - the data is only as good as people have entered.

I just did mine. There is the CSS profile and then a place to upload data that some schools require. I had to upload 1040 and W-2’s for the schools that request it.

does lsa admissions pre-select the ross-preferred people for ross admissions? I mean, ross-preferred ppl write their why umich about mostly ross, not lsa.

Again, if everyone would give us a little peak at their Naviance comparison between this year and last couple of years - it would be interesting.

Our school had 36 EAs with one admit. In the past we have had 20 EAs with 7-10 admits.

This is what I am hearing from all parties - but maybe not this stark.

The answer is - some combination of -

  1. They are simply delaying or staging their rollout more now.

  2. They have found lots of new students who are not in the “normal” places which is great and exactly what should be happening.

  3. Our school is out of favor (could be for lots of reasons including matriculation rates)

Yes. Your Ross application is not looked until you are accepted LSA. Externally, this could look simultaneous if a deferred student is admitted on one of the Ross decision dates.

You need to fill out CSS via CollegeBoard and submit it there.

I did, in post #3704 above. Re-posting:

On average, for the past 3 years:

  • approximately 12-15 applicants each year (slight uptick last year)
  • 4-5 get accepted EA, occasionally maybe 1 or 2 get rejected but it’s rare; all others get deferred (mostly higher stat kids, per the GC - not my words)
  • about 2 typically enroll

This year:

  • 16 applicants
  • 1 acceptance, 15 deferrals

My question was - is the LSA offer good PAST 5/1 if waitlisted at Ross? I assume yes.

I don’t think any offers are good past 5/1. They need to know by 5/1 if you are coming.

I would think that if you are waitlisted at Ross and accept LSA prior to 5/1, you would have a chance of getting off the Ross waitlist after you accepted admission.

Is that what you are asking?

No, it’s not what I’m asking.

DD22 is in at NEU for business (easy to change major there anyway) and in at Michigan LSA (waiting for Ross decision). Apparently, it’s possible to be waitlisted by Ross.

So if 5/1 rolls around and she is still waitlisted by Ross, does she have to accept the LSA to stay on the Ross waitlist. Or can she put down a deposit at NEU and stay on Ross waitlist w/o paying deposit?

IMO, I’d assume no. The LSA offer expires 5/1, unless admissions could/would extend it. But I don’t think they would.

From what I’ve read over the past couple of years, either posters have put down the LSA deposit and waited to hear from the Ross WL or they moved on to another college.

If waitlisted in either the 2/18 and 3/18 decision “waves,” and if not admitted in the 4/15 “wave,” then I’d think it’s either LSA or move on to another college. The reality is that Ross WL movement in May or even June is extremely rare, but it has happened, mainly during the initial stage of the pandemic back in March 2020.
