UMich, Apply early, get notified of acceptance early?

When is considered early? I'm going to shoot for November.

But does that mean we get notified in, say, december? (just like Early Decision)

Edit: I'm referring to the "rolling admissions" process that they seem to use.

Early is not november. Sorry but even above-average students should apply earlier, say mid october at the VERY latest. If you are serious about applying to a school, why not apply as soon as you can? It only increases your chances and you don't want to have to wait a few more weeks for UMich to receive everything. Again, unless you have stellar stats, applying in November and hearing back in December is usually quite rare. Just apply in Sept/October and get that acceptance letter early.

When I visited, they said to shoot for Halloween, Thanksgiving at the very latest.

Unfortunately, I didn't listen and shot for New Year's. I heard in March.

The online app will be available Aug. 1st, hard copy by Aug. 15th. They recommend that all application materials are received by Nov. 1st for scholarship consideration.

LOL GBAM, someone's looking at the website again!!!

Don't panic if you pass that date, I still got 2 scholarships despite applying late...but yes, apply early, you'll probably maximize all chances and potential that way. DON'T PUT IT OFF. I don't recommend this either, but it's possible to still get in if you only spend an hour on the application. So do it. Early.

Early = good. Saved me a lot of money.

Yeah, ironically, a friend just called me today and asked if I knew the upcoming app dates, among other things relating to the U. I very reluctantly went back on that site, got the info., and then quickly logged off! LOL!

My app was complete by Oct. 15...and I heard back in March. Then again in April. And then again in May...when they finally accepted me.

LOL, same here! Applied in October, deferred in November, waitlisted in April, rejected in May.

Just know that applying early doesn't mean you're getting a decision early. I know kids who applied in February that got their decision before I got mine, and I applied in October!

Yes, students with top profiles will hear quickly. Other students may wait.

So, in a nutshell whether or not "applying early = hearing back early" depends on your grades/scores/etc. It may work for you, but it may not.

i applied in November and heard back before Christmas...weird how they do things.

I applied in late September/early October, was deferred in November, waitlisted in mid april and then accepted in late may. So all in all I waited about 8 months, but it was definitely worth the wait, Michigan was my first choice all the way.

when do they start taking in applications? is there a certain date they start?

From my experiances, seniors that applied in september usually found out if they were deferred/accepted/rejected by around christmas break time.
And I think it's VERY rare for someone to get rejected outright if you apply that early. You'll at least get deferred. Timing is crucial for michigan. You could get in if you applied early, but get rejected if you applied one or two months later.

NO! You need to apply MUCH earlier. Apply as SOON as possible. I recommend applying the first week or two after the App is online. That's what I did and it made all the difference. Trust me, apply earlier than November. It should be the first college you apply to. It's the Harvard of the West. DO IT!

Justin

If you are taking the SATs in October, can you send in the application in Sept. and then send the scores later on?

If you are a clear admit, applying in late October early November is not too late provided your application is complete by then. We have a student here who applied on Nov 1 and was admitted on Nov 30.
